So it’s our third wedding anniversary coming up on the 20th of Jan, right? We thought we might get a hotel suite on the 19th. A nice hotel in town, 5 star, with a spa. The Rendezvous Allegra hotel. Niiiice. In-room spa, special with bubbly and breakfast for two the next morning. Every day leading up to our anniversary weekend $250-$280 or so. Expensive, but worth it for our anniversary instead of presents.
Until the weekend we want to stay there. Then the room rate jumps up to $350 for that one night. What the hell?
Now I’m upset. I really had my heart set on a nice hotel room for the night for our anniversary. Hubby had agreed to it and was looking forward to it too. We wanted a a spa, because dammit, it’s our anniversary.
So now I don’t know what to do. We could try to find the extra money, I guess. I’ll have to wait for him to wake up and we’ll see.
Well that stinks. I can only guess there’s some big sports event or convention going on that week and they want to milk as much as they can from people that HAVE to be there on that day.
If your dates are flexible, how about the following weekend? (For seventy to one hundred bucks a night, I’d be flexible!)
Duh, neverminjd…got you confused with someone stateside…and the holiday I mentioned is only in the US.
Found a website that might able to make you a deal.
I know nothing about them, can’t vouch, etc. Good luck!
Thanks for the link, we’re actually using wotif.com.au - $350 is the discounted rate for that night, unfortunately.
Turns out the Tour Down Under starts that weekend, so hotels in town are jacking almost all of their prices bad style.
Looks like we’ll be taking gotpasswords suggestion and having it a week early or a week late. That’s not so bad, I was just annoyed this morning to find nearly a 50% markup just because there’s a friggin’ bicycle race on in town (and not even in town, it starts out at Gawler!)
My annoyance is that my coffee maker chose yesterday to forget how to brew coffee. My mom had sent me a lovely selection of coffees and I was looking forward to a cup for christmas morning, but ended up making do with a cappuchino from AM/PM.
Damn thing was free, lasted 10 years and dies on the one morning I wanted a nice cuppa. Since I couldn’t be home for the holidays this year, that was supposed to give me a little connection to home. Bah!
I’ve stayed at the Rendezvous Allegra Sierra Indigo. It was very nice and I’d certainly recommend it. Can you defer your stay a little? Just celebrate your anniversary a little bit later once prices have dropped back to normal? It would probably be nicer once the school holidays are over anyway.
That will be the Australia Day long weekend, so prices will probably still be pretty high.
My small annoyance is that my sister used our Christmas call to start her endless bitching about her job. This plus giving me organ recitals (bitching about health) is becoming routine for her. The reason it’s small is that she only managed to get in about 30 seconds of bitching before my brother got on the line so he and I could exchange Christmas greetings. Maybe he’s also tired of her gripefests and knew I’d probably be getting pissed off.
Thanks for starting this timely thread.
I can’t find my glasses or my spare pair.
Can you stay on another weekend when the rates are reasonable?
And I mean reasonable in the loosest meaning of the word.
All sorted out. We’re staying a week earlier, with the $270 price for the night. Happy again.
Another mini - goddamn SA for not having boxing day sales. That meant that everyone’s sales were today, and I needed to go out and get some things so I ended up getting caught in the crush.
Also everyone’s sold out of Wiis. I wasn’t likely to get one anyway, but still.
GAH. I have to hire another part-timer. I’d hoped that I was settled for a while when I hired my newest 3rd shift guy, but now my 1st shift guy has given his two week notice.
