Smallville, what's everyone think?

I jsut saw the season finale and was very impressed. On a whole I thought the show was good and I can’t wait till next season. What did everyone else think?

If you’re talking on the whole, I’m really impressed with Smallville.
I almost didn’t watch this show when it came on but, almost at the last minute, decided to tune in for the first show. It was pretty good. Later on, during the season, I almost stopped watching because there were a number of fairly mediocre episodes about the “meteor rocks” and teenage angst. All of it was pretty poorly written. I ended up still tuning in week after week and it’s gotten much much better.

The actors they’ve hired are great. Almost all of them have fallen into their characters well and their relationships with the other character only deepen that. The writing has steadily improved and there is some real tension in scenes between, say, Lex and his father or Lana and Clark. Lex has some well developed subplots going and Clark is struggling to keep his powers under control.

The one thing that needs to be worked on is Clark’s relationship to his parents. The show could be vastly improved by fleshing out Ma and Pa Kent. That’s where Clark learned all his do goody values and to keep them as these two dimensional characters that spout ethical and moral cliches doesn’t get to the heart of how Clark came to be who he is.

Other than that, I have been very impressed with this show as a whole. Oh yeah, and Alison Mack is great actress playing a fabulous character wrapped up in a bundle of cuteness. Anyone who denies her adorableness is merely deluding themselves.

i didn’t see much of the finale because i was watching buffy, but i like the show. it’s borderline corny (as is everything comic book related) but they do a good job of reigning it in. the storyline could get tiring, you know, clark doing super-stuff, reporters spying on him, and then threatening to reveal him but always failing in the end. but hey, that’s comics for ya.

but the friendship between he and lex is interesting, and the girls are pretty hot. the kid who plays clark kent is pretty spot-on as far as casting goes, he looks too perfect to be an actual human. spooky, really.

I prefer to think of it as the Lex Luthor Show.

Lex is SO much more interesting and charismatic than anyone else on the show.

For that matter, I wouldn’t mind if we never see Lana again. Chloe is MUCH cuter, and smarter, to boot.

I do agree somewhat, seeing the strugle within Lex is good writing or maybe just better acting. He seems to be on the edge with every decision he makes. And the casting for Clark was done to perfection, you can almost see the way he acts like CR from the movies.

I’m still mad at the way they left everyone hanging at the end of the season though.

I’ve only seen a couple of episodes, but I like it. IMHO, Lex and his father are the best things about the show. Last night’s episode was enough to make me look forward to the new season.

I, too, like Chloe better than Lana.

I don’t know, there’s something about Lana, but I can see where Chloe would turn some heads.

Another to look forward too next season, I heard the writers are trying very hard to write in Bruce Wayne sometime next year for an episode or 2. A nice little cross over if they can pullit off right.

Lana is flawless. I mean, Chloe is terribly cute, don’t get me wrong, but Lana is flat-out luminous. Chloe is probably the more interesting character, though – Lana is sort of one-dimensional.

Lex is, however, my favorite character. They’ve written him so well – he’s so complex, what with his father issues, his attempts to do good by Smallville that always bite him in the ass, and his quirky friendship with Clark. I don’t want to see him go bad!

I loved/hated the cliffhangers, but you knew it was coming! It was certainly an excellent season finale.

Damn I need answers, Don’t think I can wait till next Sept.
Oh and did anyone see that the have the pilot on dvd witha few neat features. But I’m not sure I can justify spending $20 on 1 show and few extras. What does everybody else think?

i plan on watching it now that 24 is over.

It pisses me off that they aren’t releasing the whole season on DVD. My favorite episode was the one with Faelin (sp?), the crooked cop who witnessed Clark’s powers. That was the first time they stepped away from the freak of the week formula and remains my fave. But I did like that Clark is getting stronger now. If the first ep of next season ties the loose ends nicely, I will want all of them on DVD.

I have to say, that Lex is one of the most fascinating characters I have seen on TV in a long time. TV and movies are so full of the arch-bad-guy-Lex that I find it fascinating to see how he became that way. His evolution is really, really interesting.

Pet peeve of the show: There are some “loose ends” that kind of bug me. Little things really. Example (totally made up, not a spoiler)/ New villain-of-the-week, Charmian, shoots green rays from her eyes. While trying to beat up Chloe and zap her with my glowing eyes, I get beat up by Clark Kent. Throws me right through a concrete wall! Bad-guy, Charmian is defeated… Thrown through a wall by a boy who can move lightening quick.

Okay, so… Wouldn’t Charmian mention something to someone about how that Kent kid just sent her through a wall? If the cops scoop her up and throw her in jail, she’s just going to melt the bars with the rays from her eyes and escape. Isn’t anyone going to wonder about how the Kent kid defeated Charmian and her glowing eyes?

That’s my only issue with the show. He’s “defeated” a few bad guys, that you’d figure would have probably brought up the issue of his speed and strength with authorities.

I’m thinking mostly about the shows like when he beat up the kid with psychokinetic powers. Bad guy shattered a chainsaw on Clark, got thrown across the barn and lived to tell of it. C’mon, wouldn’t he tell someone???

Krypto! Krypto! Krypto!

Woof!

Love this show! Lex is an amazing character, but I like Clark as well.
As Charmian said, it is the “evolution” that fascinates me.

You’re right…when he pulled out the pipe to freeze the swarming bees in the Clark For President! episode, how’d he explain his strength away to whoever saw the frozen room?

Ditto.
