Smilf ? Really ???

As said upthread, it’s single mother, not Southie mother. But are you describing a real conversation you had with your ten-year-old? Or are you imagining a father giving that answer to his ten-year-old?

Forget it Jake, it’s Chinatown

I’m just curious who the large poster is.

There’s a new series on Showtime called SMILF. It features Frankie Shaw as the lead, as well as the writer and director. Shaw plays Bridgette, a single woman with a young child, and centers around the difficulties in her dating life.

“With Benefits”

Monkeys I’d Like to Feed?

No, that’s how Clothahump views the majority of Dopers.

That was fucking funny.

Guardian opinion piece by a single mother who finds SMILF annoying.

Personally, I am shocked, shocked, that a Showtime sitcom is lewd in its depictions of relationships and old-fashioned in its gender stereotypes.

I see Rosie O’Donnell is part of the show. Is she the SMILF?

RTFT:

He’s not large, he just has big thoughts.

Or you could say “It has to do with sex. It’s not a show for children.” Don’t blame Showtime for your poor communication skills.

She plays Bridgette’s mother.

You tell us, Casanova.

I had to pretend I didn’t read that for the joke to work. I dismissed the possibility that anyone would consider Rosie O’Donnell a MILF, and wouldn’t get the joke.

Somebody got it.

I’m feeling old here, but I’ve never heard the word “southie” before. What’s it mean?

Following along, that would be “Mom I’d Like to Foul.”

South Boston. SMILF takes place in the neighborhood.

I think the term MILF at this point, despite the obvious inclusion of the word “fuck” and definition of the acronym, is fairly de-sexualized and commonplace that it’s lost all of it’s edgy/offensiveness. Then S = single. The obvious implication of the title “SMILF” to me is that it’s about the life of a single mom, perhaps focused on dating (not necessarily in a sexually focused way). FWIW I had heard of this before and didn’t even know it was a show, mostly because I had familiarized myself with the biography of actor Mark Weber. I knew that his ex (the creator of the show and mom of his kid) had made a short film but didn’t realize it was developed into a TV series.

And just remember, South Boston is north of about 2/3 of the rest of Boston.
