Smokers stink.

Are you Canadian?

Didn’t say you did.

Wow. Someone really needs to remove the yardstick from his twat.

And for the record: smokers do, literally, stink. And before Ms. Putrescent Hoo-ha here gets his tits in a twist all over again, I’ve said as much to the smoker(s).

I wouldn’t exactly characterize you as a “big old meaning”. No, more like a big ol’ meaningless. I thank you!

And if you’re really lucky and driving with your windows down, you might get their still lit butt in YOUR car!

Nonsense. Companies and corporations can, and rightly do, impinge upon one’s civil liberties even during off hours. Just one example, taken from my years working with school-aged children: the center I worked at six years ago found out that one of its female employees had, completely legally, posed for some nude pictures that were then posted to a (again, legal) site that displayed such photography. She was of age. Everything she did was perfectly legal, and she did it on her own time, and never spoke of it to any co-workers, parents, or, obviously, any of the children in her care. But when it was found out by a parent and brought to the attention of the center director, the director fired her immediately because she (reasonably) feared that keeping her on would have deleterious effects on the child care center’s image.

And fuck you, too.

My wife has severe asthma and environmental allergies, and immediately feels a tightening of the lungs and a shortness of breath at the first whiff of cigarette smoke, and typically gets a throbbing headache within two or three minutes of exposure. This happens even when we’re driving in a car with our windows up and the heater/defogger/AC on, and we pull up next to a car with someone smoking with the windows down (because, of course, even smokers can’t stand the smell of the smoke they produce). Now, does she (or do we) make a big thing about this? Not at all. She deals with it as best can. But for dickless pieces of shit like you to say that all such claims are bogus is out and out horseshit. So: Fuck. Off. Pretty please?

Hmm. I got the “dickless” part right.

I’m good!

Wifey is fine with the pollutions coming out of the car you pull up next to? It’s just the cigarette smoke that causes the problem? Ok.

ETA: And I don’t doubt that someone smoking a cigarette triggers an allergic reaction. I do doubt that someone that walks by a person with cigarette odor on their clothes can trigger health problems. And if it does, then that is an unusual problem that the person with the problem needs to take precautions with; everyone else shouldn’t be expected to cater to that.

Where, exactly, did I say that my wife expects others (meaning smokers) to cater to her needs, you numb cunt?

And yes, she is fine with the other automobile emissions. Or as fine as any of us are. It’s cigarette smoke specifically that causes this reaction.

No need to take this personal. I don’t have anything against your wife. I personally doubt that cigarette smoke on clothing causes health problems for someone that comes into casual contact with it at work or whatever. It is totally ok for you and your wife to disagree. Perhaps I’m wrong.

The biggest piss off of the whole thing is that the douche-bag who caused the fire with his smoke isn’t going to be charged because it was an ‘accident’.

Wifey is fine with the pollutions coming out of the car you pull up next to? It’s just the cigarette smoke that causes the problem? Ok.

Actually (and I did just see your edit) for some reason cigarette smoke really gets my asthma acting up as well, to the point that I need to use an emergency inhaler (I’m talking actual smoke here, not just stinky residue on someone’s clothing). I don’t know why this gets me so much where car exhaust usually doesn’t (although some vehicles - I assume in desperate need of a tune up - will literally take my breath away). Some perfumes do the same thing. I don’t know why - size of the particle maybe? But when I start hacking around a smoker I’m really not trying to be a twat - I’m just hacking.

And finally, yes, smokers do stink. My mom is a smoker and I tell her that she stinks - well, usually I say 'Jesus Mom, your breath is enough to knock a pig off a shit truck from 50 paces - have a piece of gum already!" but we have a different sort of relationship…

Speaking as a former smoker, nothing smells worse than a partially smoked cigarette that’s stashed in your pocket/back in the pack/tossed in the trash inside. Please dispose of your butts outside, in a proper container and extinguish them first. Or try something like this.

I suppose that’s possible. I don’t care though, any more than the people who wear enough perfume to gag a maggot care that they’re giving me a sore throat and a headache.

And fuck you for thinking I SHOULD care.

Fair enough.

But the reason it got personal in the first place was because of this:

(My emphasis.)
Were you, or were you not implying (or stating outright) that everyone who claims to be affected by coming into contact with cigarette smoke is, in fact, lying? And if you were, in fact, implying that, then maybe you ought to realize that such blanket statements are, in and of themselves, complete bullshit, correct?

I stand by finding those claims bullshit. If you can handle driving in traffic in the city, you can handle walking by someone that smoked a cigarette outside and then came inside.

That means I don’t buy it. That’s a broad generalization that I am recklessly making on a messageboard. It is not me specifically and personally looking deep into your wife’s baby blues and calling her a filthy liar.

I may be completely wrong about what I think is bullshit. So what.

And on edit, I meant to say, I don’t want you to go taking it all personally. I certainly don’t take it personally to be called a cunt. On the SDMB? Being called the famous ‘cunt’ may be the coolest thing ever.

Hey, fuckwit, did I say that they should care? No, I only jumped Nzinga’s shit when she implied that people who complain of casual contact with smoke having deleterious effects on their health are all liars (okay, to be fair, she said “bullshit”).

I maintain that it’s my wife that has the affliction, so therefore, it’s up to her to prepare sufficiently in advance for anything she may encounter. But don’t fucking imply that people like my wife are lying when they maintain that, yes, smoking does, in fact, affect them more so than it may others.

Yeah, I bet they were cruising softcore porn sites just in case they came across their kids’ childcare provider. You know, looking out for the children. Whoever got that teacher fired should be beaten.

You sure came into this thread all hot and bothered didn’t you? I am aware that they can and do. I disagree with the “rightly”. The case you mentioned above is a perfect example of something the company can do, for which I will call them fuck-knobs.

We’re in total agreement on that.

But that doesn’t change the fact that the daycare was within its rights to do what it did. Though, admittedly, it did stink in more ways than one.
