Snappy responses to "OK boomer"

I grew up in Oklahoma. It took me longer than I want to admit to discover it wasn’t some bastardization of Boomer Sooner (or Oklahoma is OK!)

The correct answer is:

“Get off my lawn!” and shake your cane if you have one.

I think that the only proper response is: “we’re sorry that we killed the planet and the economy.”

So you said this in the other thread and I’m still puzzled as to why you think this is a snappy response. Do you live in an area of the country where it is shameful to not have been in the military? Because I think most Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z folk would either laugh at that or be utterly confused.

The correct answer is “I’m sorry I had to fight in the middle of your Black Panther party.”

 Why would any “snappy response” be needed for an expression that’s basically saying “I’ve heard enough out of you already and I’m neither impressed nor interested”? Did we ever have a “snappy response” to “Talk to the hand”, for example?

Either laugh at it and shut up, or laugh at it and keep on talking. Any snippy patronizing “snappy response” just sends the message “You hurt my feelings by implying that I’m old, and I’m going to retaliate by being condescendingly insulting, exactly how your stereotype of my generation predicts I’ll behave”. Not very effective IMHO.

Ok, so is boomer meant to be baby boomer? Ill admit im out of touch.

If somebody said it to me id pedanticly correct them. Im a gen x-er, dammit, and i refuse to labeled!

Because I put my ass on the line for the nation and if they didn’t, fuck-em, their opinions really don’t matter to me.

I ignore comments like that because you have to consider the source. They are ignorant.

I suppose one could always try “You should sue that charm school”.

Depends on the context of the comment. If its a good natured insult between friends probably something long the lines of sure kid whatever ranging from there down to “come talk to me when you grow some hair on it”

“I can’t. You didn’t save any money and won’t retire.”

KO Roomba.

(Random response to random input. I know, it sucks.)

“You gave us Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. I’d say we’re even.”

Y’all gave us the Starland Vocal Band, Debbie Boone, Rupert Holmes, and the Archies. Check and mate, mate.

Chill Mill

You could go deep irony and say “Fix my VCR.”

Since the point of the snappy response is to leave the target wallowing in impotent hostility, this suggests that “Get a job, kid” is working as intended.

It could be intentionally misinterpreting that “boomer” implies that they served on a nuclear sub, and the response would then inquire as to where the other person served.

Over the weekend I visited grandchildren. Grandson had a question on setting up contacts on his new phone. He started his question by saying “I’m a boomer”. So, this was a kid asking a grandfather a question and calling himself a boomer. I asked about boomer and apparently this is something that kids are calling each other in school. I guess it’s similar to previous generations calling other kids a derogatory term for gay people or those with mental disabilities. And I would prefer them using “boomer” than words that my generation used to insult each other.
Are we actually hearing them call older people boomer in real life?
My response to them using boomer was joking about it. It didn’t hurt my feelings. I probably joked so much they probably don’t want hear any more and won’t bring it up again…
