OK. That’s an honest answer. I can live with that. Does that mean that you consider the teachings of the Mormon church to be the standard, the point of reference for your life? If so, I would point out that you have chosen a higher standard than just personal opinion or society’s approval/disapproval, both of which are subject to change.
If you use the doctrine of your church to measure right vs. wrong you are employing an absolute standard. It makes no difference whether or not you agree/disagree/undecided or are in the process of reconciling your thoughts/opinions/experiences with church doctrine. The mere measure of one against the other is what I’ve been talking about.

Yes, you stated this, and seem to be asserting that there is a standard that can be followed. Yet, you then later admit that the bible is not that standard since it is just as vulnerable to misinterpretation and twisting as anything else out there.
Apparently you feel that only God can be the standard. Fair enough, but which God? The vengeful God? The ever loving God? The omnipresent God? The absent God? The God who no longer allows prophecy? Or the God that engages in modern day prophecy? Or how about a God that isn’t Judeo-Christian?
The problem with using God as the standard is that he is not physically here (or he is and few realize it) to lay out his standards. Of course, he may have left his words in the form of the Bible, but that brings us right back to the point that the Bible is never interpreted the same way twice.

The qualitites you attribute to God seem to indicate your disappointment with him/her/them/it. You seem somehow to feel cheated/angry that God is so…well, lacking. He/she/they/it just doesn’t meet your requirements, so it’s just better to decide God is not. POOF! All gone. No more messy ‘God’ problem. It was way to difficult to understand anyway. After all, ‘if we can’t understand it, quantify it, see it, prove it…well, it must not exist.’ End of story.

Sneevil, I have no problem with this point, IF you use on an individual basis. For example, it’s obvious that I use the Mormon Church to measure right and wrong. HOWEVER, you made blanket statements regarding numerous religions/Gods. That is what got me irked. Also, your point was better made in GD, NOT in a thread regarding sexual molestation. Thank you capacitor for your post on JWs. I could not say anything about them originally, because quite frankly, it’s not my place. I have no idea what the JW religion is like, and felt uncomfortable trying to make points when I had no knowledge about them.
