SNL 11/19: Jason Segal/ Florence & the Machine

I thought this was the strongest episode of the season so far. Segal did a great job and you know… MUPPETS! I really liked that the Muppets were around for several sketches/bits and not just a monologue appearance.

The “Seduction by Chess” digital short was hilarious.

John Huntsman on Update was pretty funny, as was “Really with Seth and Kermit.”

Andre the Giant Ordering Ice Cream really cracked me up with its absurdity.

New Jack Thanksgiving was a fun way of trotting out a bunch of band-name jokes, and the Regis & Kelly sketch was a fun way to trot out a bunch of impressions. Both made me laugh a lot.

I’m a big Florence & the Machine fan and thought they sounded stellar as well.

A few misses, of course, but overall a really strong episode. What did everyone else think?

Was the character in the digital short meant to be a parody of Carl Sagan? Because it looked like him, with the eyebrows and the blazer but this was never explicitly said.

And I thought the Temper-Pedic commercial parody was funny.

I agree on the Temper-Pedic commercial, I had a “Wait, that looks like…” moment when he was rolling the dice, then it kept going and going. Rolling dice, digging for change, doing “the worm”… That just about killed me.

The family who is way too affectionate was trotted out again, but I’m OK with seeing that once a year and having the one homeless guy say “Oh no, not them” and head back out the door was funny.

Muppets were great, I have to admit I’m a bit of a Muppets nerd. The Really with Seth and Kermit was pretty good and the song at the beginning was amusing.

I didn’t quite get the skit with the group singing in the bar at the end. The song wasn’t quite funny, but they kept adding to the people at the bar watching them play. Was that the joke?

It must have been. I did literally LOL when the Muppets showed up with Hader at the bar, rocking out like everyone else.

I never found that one funny and with that repeat and the repeat of the “Red Flag” faux-mercial, I was beginning to think the whole show was a repeat.

I loved the temperpedic bit, and Kermit on Update. Loved when he made a pork joke a realized,“I’m gonna pay for that!”

I went to bed before the fake news, but I did enjoy Florence and the Machine’s first song.

The Denzel Washington impression was hilarious. But that was about it.
