This was the first regular SNL I’ve seen in years. (I watched the Smigel TV funhouse episode last week.) I happened to notice in an article in the paper noting that Julia Louise Dreyfus would be hosting, but the hook for me was Paul Simon as the musical guest. I was reading a book, off and on, but I put it down because the show was actually good. I was so not used to that. I may have to keep watching, to see if the trend continues. Paul Simon was excellent, of course.
Here’s the link to the Gore opening.

Ya gotta love the job that GWB has had since he “lost” the 2000 election.
Not bad! It wasn’t The Daily Show, but that was some pretty funny and stinging criticism.
He was.
I haven’t watched SNL in about 15 years, but I am a MySpace addicts. Can someone describe what went on so I can rail about being the exception?
This is one I wish I’d seen.
The sketch basically showcased all the members of myspace as pedophiles pretending to be hot girls.
Oh ok. My wonderful corner of MySpace is far away from that sleezy part of MySpace so I don’t have to be defensive. That would be like apologising for being on The Straight Dope just because there are kiddy porn sites on the web.
that was actually Al Gore? (I’m bad. The majority of politicians look alike to me, and the majority of middle-aged male celebrities as well) I thought it was Paul Simon. I spent the whole episode wondering if the joke was that it was Paul Simon playing Al Gore or if it was Paul Simon playing Paul Simon. (and that that would be what America was like if Paul Simon were president) I actually get it now! (shut up. I was like eight or nine when he was running for president. Also, I wouldn’t recognize Paul Simon if he came up to me and said, “yo. My name’s Paul Simon.”)
I thought it was good, too. I’m really really not fond of most of the current cast, though. I hope they’ve gotten rid of about half of them and brough a bunch of better players in by next season. Unfortunately, I doubt they will.
