Snooker: "Chess With Balls"

And Ronnie’s done it again. A great victory in a great tournament. Record victory by the way, he’s now even with Stephen Hendry at seven world championships, and I’m sure he will win it at least once more and break the record.

ETA: I think Judd Trump still was exhausted by his semi-final against Mark Williams in the first session of the final and gave it away, otherwise this could have been a very close final.

Trump played well today, made it respectable - for sure going life and death in the semi took a lot out of him.

Congrats to Ronnie equalling a legendary haul of titles. Sean Ingle making a decent case for Hendry as the Goat in this article today, but not too many on board with that I would guess. O’Sullivan takes it for higher quality of opposition and unprecedented talent over a far longer period of time imo.

Damn. I remember watching Ronnie O’Sullivan (and snooker) for the first time back in April/May 1996, where he lost to Peter Ebdon in the semis. He’s only half a year my junior. I had just moved to Wolverhampton (and onwards) on a work exchange visa during college and was getting immersed in the local sporting culture and watching the impossibly difficult game of snooker and these pros play it out like it’s a casual game of eight ball at the pub. Incredible talent. Can’t believe a quarter century plus later and Ronnie’s still ruling the roost.
