Snow snow SNOW!!!

We’ve got about an inch already. Woohoo!!!

I don’t mind being house-bound because I never leave the house anyway

Are you guys crazy?? Looking forward to snow?? Having grown up in northwest Pennsylvania where we get the snow effect off Lake Erie, I have had enough snow for a lifetime (except for Christmas day). Living in the metro D.C. area, I’m with Peta, municipal governments don’t know who to plow roads or clear snow away and the drivers!! One little flake and they flake out, driving so slow you won’t ever make it where you are going until Spring, sliding all over, etc., etc. generally making it dangerous for anyone else out there. Besides, I can walk to the subway from my house and my office so I probably won’t ever get a snow day! :frowning:

I’m with my wife and DC. To quote Eric Cartman, “Dude, this is fucking weak.” I got all the snow I ever wanted in the Great Lakes area. Spend a winter without owning a car, trudging through hip-deep snow to the store two blocks away (atrip which takes a half-hour each way, BTW) and you will immediately cease to think that snow is particularly cool.

I’m the kid who was robbed by nine years of playing in the snow in the winter by his parents, when we moved to SoFla when I was nine.

So, I’m still catching up. As far as those bitching about “oh this is nothing compared to _______”, I know that, but still, it’s pretty and it’s fun.

Let me enjoy it.

(Dupont Circle update: ain’t too much sticking to the ground. It’s too warm in the city, but out in Rockville, the grass is nice and white. :))

Okay, as I mentioned, I’m not afraid of snow. I’ve grown up with it, trudged through it and driven in. All those years, wet socks, cold toes (ankles, knees, thighs and hips) have taken the magic away for me, but…as Fairfax is getting quite a bit and I’m listening to my coworkers, I’m growing scared. Not of the snow that’s falling, but of them and all the other drivers they’re talking about. The commute home drags already most nights and while they’re talking like nervous Nellies, they’re also the ones that’ll be behind the wheels of massive vehicles–them and thousands like them. I suspect I’m about to pay dearly for the fact that this is the first real snow we’ve seen.

Of course you should enjoy it Montfort.
I just wish I could have been there now
and we could have fun with the snow together.:)

That is what you should be afraid of Peta. Not the snow but the drivers who move to DC from southern, non-snow belt areas or the ones who have grown up here all their lives.

Anniz: From what we hear, you and Montfort don’t need snow to have fun together.

dcnewsman, we all need some changing some times;)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Snow is wonderul and all that. I’m glad we’ve got a lot here in WI because my kids love playing in it and it gets them out of the house and breathing some fresh air (sure, it’s 4 degree air, but it’s still fresh).

But Damn! It’s not even three weeks into December and I am already sick of shoveling my driveway. I wouldn’t normally complain, but I’m running out of places to throw the stuff. The end of my driveway is flanked by two six-foot piles of snow right now and we are supposed to get more this week.

And just when I finished clearing out the driveway this morning before work, along came Mr. Plow to dump a three foot deep pile of compacted, ice-strewn road snow, blocking me in. I took me an extra half an hour to dig through it.

I’m not gonna say Bah Humbug, but a break between storms would be appreciated.

Are you sure that’s the last time it snowed? I lived in Jackson from November 1998-November 1999, and I swear it snowed right around Christmas of 1998. Or was that just considered an ice storm? All I remember was that it looked pretty, and my mother was worried about me because I had to drive 300 miles or so to get to their house for Christmas.
Of course, I got sent home early from work today. Only 40 minutes, sure, but it was nice. And there’s still a good 2-4 inches on the ground at my apartment.

It’s as lovely as Anniz outside here in Rockville, MD.

I cut out of work early and came home to about 2" on the ground, and more is lightly falling.

Awesome!

It’s snowing! It’s snowing! It’s snowing!

This may not be big for alot of you but I live in Alabama, where UFO sightings are much more common than a good snow. I have seen snow (and I mean the real stuff, not sleet or icy conditions) maybe three times in my life. 1993 was “the big one” here when we got snow that measured in feet and we were locked in our houses without power for a week. I am so excited this time!

Saint Zero, anything you get will be headed my way soon. It has been flurrying all day off and on and even sticking a little bit. I hope I get to make snow devils, like Homer Simpson.

The only bad thing about this is the fact that we had a tornado Saturday, the worst being about an hour away from us, so alot of people are without homes (and family members :frowning: )for what should be a fun thing.

But back to fun!!! Maybe we’ll have a white Christmas!

still no snow here. i hate when it snows south of here and we get rain. icky, icky, icky, rain. they say it may change over in the night, i don’t believe it, i don’t see the “snow light.” i will attempt to help the change over by starting the “sneg” dance.

Well, it’s done snowing. All said and done, about 4" here in Rockville, MD. Not bad. It’s going to seriously fuck up the morning commute, but that’s why I live within walking distance of Metro.

(And, my car kicks ass in the snow.)

Anyway, more’s coming this weekend, so I await that.

White Chanukkah, anyone?

Sigh…another Florida doper checking in to say that I wish that where I live we could actually see some snow of the legal kind…

Snow?? I got snow. Been shoveling like a maniac and I even went sledding today. Wiped out twice, and got snow down my boots. :frowning:

Check out my sig for a picture of my snow…

We’ve had 22inches so far this month. I heard that is more than we got all last winter.
2.7" more and we will have a record.
18" on the ground now.Usually it snows and a few days later it melts.
Another storm is due tomorrow. Were supposed to get 2 to 4 inches.
Any wind at all and we will be spending a few days snowbound. The drifts are already higher than our car and there is ice on top of the snow.
The new freeway going through town has shut off our best drift free road.
LOOK OUT southern Ill,Mo. and points south. We begin flushing around February.

The roll call so far: Dinsdale, UncleBeer, Wring , Hodge, Anya Marie, Jvanhorn, pldennison, Peta Tzunami, msrobyn, Myron Van Horowitzski, dcnewsman [?], Persephone[?].

ok everyone, I would like to remind you that it is time to elect new officers, for the next year, we will pick a date for the election ASAP. Right now i will fill in as secretary. New members are always welcome, and we will meet when we agrre on a time and a place.

Our Minutes

  • I would like to second this, and also say that i want
somebody to shovel out a path between the back porch, and my driveway!*

**Peta Tzunami tells us that her coworker are being Nervous Nellies about the snowfall, even though they drive massive vehicles. dcnewsman agrees. **

Wring’s suggestion is to sit in a basement and get drunk–
any takers ?? Wring, would you like to host a meeting? Could we get volunteers to bring food, and we can all bitch some more!

Dinsdale predicts long, bitter winter for chicago, Since i live in NW Indiana, i am inclined to agree with him.
[whine] Can somebody just put me out of my misery now?! [/whine]

Who would like to hear from the other members now, our topic is "What do you say to someone who says that ‘snow is pretty!’ "

Does anybody have a topic for our discussion, or shall we adjourn now?

Very nice shot, Boscibo!

FINALLY saw some in NY today. We had had a few flakes before, but it always melted as soon as it hit the ground. Even so, we got less than an inch - even DC could deal with that. (DC is real bad with snow - I have a photo of a SNOWPLOW stuck outside the Nat’l Cathedral)

Well, you know what they say: Snow is like sex - you don't know how many inches you're going to get or how long it's going to last.
