Snow White's Apple?

I could have sworn that the apple in Disney’s animated Snow White was split in half into two colors (red and black?) But, checking out the scene on YouTube, it seems to be a whole red apple. Am I thinking of a different version of the story than Disney’s? Or is it written that way in the fairy tale?

Any ideas?

The scene (in French)

It’s always been all red on my DVDs.

I remember it being red on one half, green on the other too

Half and half in the story but not the movie as my memory goes.

In the story by the time we reach the apple Snow White is (with very good reason) suspicious of gifts from strangers because of the poisoned comb and too tight laces so the Queen has to share the apple to prove to her it won’t harm her. The green side is fine, the red is poisoned (iirc) the Queen eats the green and Snow White believes the apple is fine so accepts the other (red) half.

Disney just completely skips over all of the rigamarole iirc.

Well I just checked my own copy of the tale (The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm, translated by Jack Zipes) and it’s half white and half red.

I have a feeling like I’ve seen a version of the story where they actually did this, though. Hm…

Ahah, I bet it’s this. I remember seeing Sigourney Weaver as the Evil Queen, but can’t really remember anything else about it.

I know in Gregory Maguire’s Mirror, Mirror the apple is treated on one half to make it poisonious, the other half isn’t, which produces a difference of color. The novel is newer, so I doubt that’s the long-lost image hiding in your memory.

The “too tight laces”?

Were they on her corset?

That would be the laces! I can’t remember exactly the order bu there was the comb which sent her into a swoon and when discovered they plucked it from their hair and woke her up and then the Queen had her try on a dress and laced her up so tight she couldn’t breathe. When found they sliced the laces and she woke up. The apple was the last.

It’s Snow White from 1987.
