Well, I’d say starting a pit thread here, after a day of discussion about it on another MB, just to suck up to the nonnies over there, counts as bullying.

Y’all can call me names all day long; I could care less about that. It’s when someone “asks” me to do something and then gets mad that I say no and begins trying to shame or humiliate or ostracize me in order to try and gain my compliance that it turns into bullying, and a bunch of people have done just that. See, that means it wasn’t a request, it was a demand.

It’s what happened 3 years ago when people asked the Mods to force me to stop using my replacement phrase, it’s what the Pit thread 3 years ago was about, and it’s what happened here, too.

Look in the mirror. Most of your defenders think your little catch phrase is amusing because it annoys other posters. Bullying? Probably not, but certainly harassment, albeit of a mild sort. Or rather you are deflecting your harassment with highly dubious allegations of bullying.

You think it’s funny -you take joy in what you do- because it bothers people. It’s what you are.

I admit I once found it annoying, but then he kept doing it and some Dopers found that funny so I eventually realized just how funny it really is. Now every time he says it, my living room looks like a slaughterhouse of busted guts. My uncontrolled screaming hysterics have led neighbors to call the police several times, but when I explain the joke they lose their bowels and start writhing on the floor and have to be confined to desk work and undergo intensive state-mandated counseling. It’s so funny that the inadequacy of applying the word “funny” is itself so funny as to induce paralysis, split sides, tongue swallowing and urinary incontinence, among other slapstick syndromes. It’s the joke that inspired David Foster Wallace to write Infinite Jest, and then to kill himself because he knew that in a thousand lifetimes he would never, ever, ever think of something as funny as a middle-aged man on a public message board randomly repeating a line he heard on the US version of the television show The Office. RIP David, but any time a warhead of funny like this one is detonated, some collateral damage is inevitable.

For those of you who are getting so wound up about this, you can always use Chrome’s 'Word Replacer II" plug-in to replace the word ‘quarry’ with something genuinely funny. I wish it would let you replace the whole phrase but, unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work that way

My five year old sometimes gets a word or phrase in his head and repeats it, over and over… especially if you ask him to stop. Once he knows it annoys you, he gets a smile on his face and says it tauntingly.

Did I mention that he’s five? I expect him to outgrow it by the time he’s five and a half.

And no, asking him to knock it off because it’s annoying is neither bullying or evidence of some profound failing on the part of his parents to understand humor.
