Snowboarder Bo: Enough with the fucking quarry

Yes, I understand that you do not get that the reason to not be a jerk is not because others will think less of you but just because one should not be a jerk.

And the reason to give to charity is to impress other people, espeically people who you do not know. No point in giving if others are not impressed … no reason to do behave properly and to not do to others as you would not have them do unto you unless others opinions matter to you.

That’s the thing though, it’s not “everyone else” who is taking it seriously. Just a handful of outspoken offenderati weirdos like the OP, who seem to be under the delusion that it’s bothering “everyone”. Which is why so many people have come in to post variations of “it doesn’t bother me / I don’t get why people are bothered by it”.

I have yet to see an explanation of why it should cause anyone so much distress. It says a lot more about the offended than it does about the offender.

Add another finger-wagger to the pile. It says a lot about you that you felt compelled to jump in this late in the thread just to scold some of the participants. Clearly, you were so offended by their feeling offended that you felt you had to take action. Why does a “handful of outspoken offenderati weirdoes” bother you so much?

You nailed it quite succinctly.

However, human nature being what it is, it will not matter to those that don’t get, and those that do already got it.

I didn’t just jump in - I offered my thoughts originally in post #72 in the thread. But posts like the ones I quoted are attempting to discount all the posts that bring up the very valid point that nobody has actually addressed: why should anyone care if he uses the phrase or not? How is this even an issue?

Like I said, I think it’s pretty dumb, but I defend his right to say it. And if people just ignored it he might have stopped using it eventually. But threads like this one mean he pretty much has to keep doing it to maintain his dignity. If he stops, then the terrorists have already won.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds to me like you’re describing what I called “conformists” in an earlier post. You have a vision for the culture of this message board and how it should have “actual conversations”. Bo’s posts are not fitting what you want to see here, so you tried to convince him to change. When he wouldn’t, you went to the mods to force him to change. When the mods wouldn’t force him to change, you returned to this thread to create analogy after analogy about Bo’s behavior, casting him in an unflattering light.

Since you’ve established that no one should care about what the group thinks, and individuals shouldn’t care about what you (or anyone) thinks about them on a message board, I’m not sure what that accomplishes.

If it’s just recreational outrage and venting frustration (because that’s what you think the Pit is for) over how the board is potentially changing culture, I’ll have to say that you’re giving **Bo’**s one catchphrase a lot of power to do that. If it’s not just about Bo, then your target may be partially misplaced.

Here’s a NY Times article that describes a book, Annoying: The Science of What Bugs Us. A clip from the NY Times article:

Not to get personal here (and my apologies if you think it is) , but I can’t help but notice that fighting ignorance is just a catchphrase of the column and the board. If Bo is required to give up his catchphrase, does that one go as well? Your use of that phrase might rival his use of his catchphrase.

Since you’re addressing a quote of mine, is there a question in this? What’s your incredulity about it?

I’m ignoring this on purpose because it is idiotic.

Jolly for you. Brave, too.

Maybe he could try behaving like an adult.

Ah, I see. Altruistically acceding to the demands of others who are annoyed just to feel better about yourself that you’re doing the right thing is why you think Bo should give in to the demands of some people here.

But while some people are annoyed by Bo’s catchphrase and who have expressed annoyance in this thread, some other people either like it or wants Bo to continue. They might be equally annoyed if he stops. Now how does he go about doing the altruistic thing?

When someone’s been here less than 2 week and they post stuff like this, my mind screams SOCK! I now turn on my Sockdar and see what hits.

He was crushed, I tells ye

CRUSHED!

Crushed like a can of pineapples

Well you’re not ignoring it obviously, since you quoted it. The more likely explanation is you just don’t have an answer for that question because there is no reasonable, rational explanation. It’s some sort of psychosis / neural tic.

Thanks!

By giving in to peer pressure? Pretty sure the adults are always saying not to do that!

This is actually a fair point.

You, on the other hand, are a tiresome, irritating, one-note twat who hasn’t made a single incisive, informative or entertaining post in six years. Anyone feel particularly polarized by that?

Speaking of peer pressure, I nominate this as the anthem for the thread.

Well, yes, I was addressing a quote of yours…that’s why I quoted it and all.

I’m not really incredulous, I don’t understand it, or what it has to do with this board/thread. Are you saying that you posted about Bo on another board and think you were placed in a suspension forum for 3 3/4 years…and you’re still there. Am I reading that right?

I prefer to think of his contributions as keyboard pollution.

Yes, that is actually true.

Apparently Bo has connections. Don’t fuck with Bo or you’ll be swimming with the used dishwashers in the bottom of the quarry.

Hilarious thread. This thread is a perfect example of why the unmentionable forum exists.

We have an underwear forum?

She wasn’t put in the suspension forum because of the Bo thing.

She was just annoying the hell out of the mods by being a rules lawyer over EVERYTHING. And starting thread after thread asking for clarification and when the mods would answer she would rules lawyer away with them and eventually they just got fed up and stuck her there.
