" Snowfighters" ??? Really, NYC ?????

The local media here has been referring to sanitation dept. plow drivers as “Snowfighters”.

Talk about yer Stolen Valor. Firefighters run towards utterly deadly situations every day. Police officers leave the house unsure if they will be alive at the end of their shift.

Snowfighters? Really? Fuck their couch.

Should we expect the “Up Close And Personal Painful True Stories Of New York City’s Brave Snow Widows” in the coming days?

Fer fuxsake. They’re guys who go out in massively heavy, utterly safe, well-chained trucks with plows mounted on the nose. And they plow our streets. For which I am VERY grateful. I have respect for any civil servant who does their job well. My Dad was a civil servant.

But this? “Snowfighters” ??

Fuck. That. Shit.

Probably not their fault, probably a couple of morons in the media.

Snowplough driver is too small a group to be specifically named in the surveys I’ve found, but if you rank it somewhere between truckdriver and garbage collector it is more dangerous than being a cop, which is more dangerous than being a firefighter.

Go see for yourself.

They are the garbage collectors. NYC mounts plows on the garbage trucks and uses them to plow the streets. See image: NYC got snow plowing right this time, lawmakers say | amNewYork

No they don’t. Or, if you’re going to say they do, so do plenty of other professions. If you’re going to go all “stolen valor” I’ll lump firefighters and cops in there too, as they have been wrongfully lumped in with the military post-9/11.

I will agree with you that snowfighters is fucking stupid.

Don’t they give them trucks?

Garbage collection is much more dangerous due to the fact that urban collectors have to hang off moving vehicles, jump off them, and collect garbage and toss it into a massive exposed hydraulic press. All while heavy city traffic tries to go around them.

This. Heavy (and fast-moving) traffic often surrounds most freight-type truckers, too. Snow fighters, not so much.

Frostbite is real.

Just think how different that Simpsons episode would have been if we’d always called 'em snowfighters!

Well, John Q. Driveway has our number. Now we play the waiting game. < beat > Eh, the waiting game sucks. Let’s play Hungry Hungry Hippos.

What the hell is snow?

I could not agree more and I’m aware of the statistic regarding garbage collectors. Incredibly dangerous work.

This rant is about the heroic name attached to people pushing plows around for the safety of their trucks.

Uh, seriously, where are ou hearing THIS shit?

Around my neighborhood, we generally think of snowy days as an excuse for the sanitation men NOT to pick up garbage. God knows what they’re doing instead, because the snow doesn’t go anywhere.

Where do you stand on infighting?

I hear that snowflakes are pretty mean nowadays.

It was during a news report on 880 AM. Dunno who the reporter was who used the phrase, and I’ve googled the phrase just now and come up empty.

Oh, we don’t have to ask God. We have only to do the search. They’re hiding in their warm trucks, drinking beer and ignoring stranded buses and cars nearby.

Not that this was a huge shock. But it sure got a lotta people in Enwye pretty steamed when the story broke. The stories quickly went away. After all, YOU wanna be the reporter who mysteriously stops having their garbage picked up from in front of their house???

Come on now. There could be squads of 8-yo guerilla snowball insurgents behind any building just waiting to rain ice down upon our valiant snow fighters. Someone could lose an eye!

Snowfighter was the worst Call of Duty game in the series.

I thought it was that shitty Korean movie that everyone liked except me.
