…something called “New Year’s Eve”.
That made “The Royal Tennenbaums” look like “Airplane!”
You’re going to have to elucidate that just a bit.
Do you find Royal Tennenbaums non-funny or just very cerebral and stilted? And do you find Airplane! hilarious or just goofy crap? I need your frame of reference, man - we don’t all have the same opinions on other stuff :D.
Or in other words are you trying to say you found Louie boring, super-non-whacky or what? I’m guessing you’re saying you didn’t care for it, but I’m not 100% sure ;).
Note: For the record I like Airplane! and Louie, don’t particularly care for Royal Tennenbaums ( I’m real hit or miss with Wes Anderson ).
I was saying that I find The Royal Tennenbaums to be a depressing film for the most part. I greatly enjoy it, but there are some very depressing parts.
So I found that episode of Louie to be suuuuuper-depressing. I thought the Parker Posey bit was just piling on at that point.
I find that Louie varies considerably in quality. Many episodes are “here’s a funny TV show about a comedian,” which are fine and often quite hilarious. Others have more of a dramedy feel and can range from touching to bland. And still others (especially in the latter seasons) are extremely self-indulgent garbage that would embarrass an emo tenth-grader.
The important thing to know about Louie is although it is made by a comedian, the show is not a sit com. It’s a comedy drama mostly.
I think a good starting episode is “Pregnant” which is episode 1 of season 2. An example of a funnier episode (but with R rated humor for sure in case that matters) is also from season 2: “Come On, God”.
His season 4 has been great, IMO. He deserves an Emmy for the two episodes, “In the Woods” alone. Parts 1 and 2 were shown back to back, and it was like watching a side of Louis CK that you always knew was there, but had never seen. He is an incredible talent.
From what I’ve seen of the show, it feels more like a series of short films made by the same auteur than a conventional TV series.
