So. How have y'all been?

News—

Hal Briston has become famous on the Board.

You’ll have to excuse me for being somewhat hurried, but I’m about to be hit by a hurricane.

Welcome back!

Somehow it makes me happy that this phrase is used worldwide.

Nice to see you Coldie!! Not sure if you were aware of my presence or not … but my update is that in your absence I have divorced, remarried and reproduced! All at the elderly age of 40. So, life marches on with Dopers even without your jack-booted intervention. The Monday Morning Post (MMP) threads are still alive and well.

Glad you hear you and the lovely Heloise are happy!

You did all of that in 4 months? What are you, a rabbit?

Hiya, Mycroft! It’s kinda funny, her “g” is actually somewhere in the middle. The teachers at the inburgeringscursus speak with a hard G, and she hears my rather soft G at home. I’m sure it’ll settle somewhere harder than mine, since a completely soft G is quite a task for an Anglo. Besides, where we live it’s not the way to pronounce things, anyway. I’ve managed to keep her clear from any Amsterdam dialects, so far. Surely she’ll be influenced by those sooner or later, but let’s get her to speak proper Dutch first, before this city fucks it all up.

hocking up loogies**

Yeah, but I learned it in Northern Virginia, so I’m not confident the Dutch use it regularly.

My wife also had to learn the hard G at the inburgeringscursus. That was difficult for someone from Brazil, where the "g"is prounced either as /ʒ/ (like the “s” in “measure”), or /g/ (like the “g” in “gut”) instead of an uvular fricative (like hocking up a loogie).

Good to see you, and hear that you and Heloise are doing so well!

Me? Not much going on, aside from being about to have twins.

That’s it. Thanks.

The name “Scheveningen” was the test to determine if someone was a German spy in WWII. The Germans just can’t pronounce the “s” followed by a loogie being hocked up correctly. I dont think anyone other than the Dutch can pronounce /sʁ/ 100% correctly.

Welcome Back!

So.

What dirty words has your wife been taught?

WB, Coldie!

We bought a new (to us) minivan last month, not unlike this one. Same year (2000), model and color & only 42,000 miles.

It’s so nice to have a vehicle that doesn’t require me to duck when getting in.

Welcome back! I shan’t attempt to share the excitement that is my life, as it would make your existence pale by comparison. No, really - I have an exciting life! I do, um, stuff! Really!!
OK, fine, I’m fibbing. But I’m glad to see you return.

Welcome back, Coldie! Glad to hear things are well with you and the beautiful Heloise.

Other than a vacation in Montana last month, not a whole lot new here. Montana was awesome, though.

Welcome back! It’s funny how time goes by and then BOOM. That’s it, just BOOM.

In April, I was hit from behind by a large truck going 50 MPH - I was stopped at the light and did not see him coming, probably a good thing. I was pushed thru the intersection and my car was totaled. Uninsured motorist, big surprise. Minor injuries, but it seemed to cause some harm to my already deteriorating hip. So in June, at the ripe old age of 51, I had a hip replacement. I now have a bright and shiny titanium hip worth $47,000 inside me! Recovery has been a bitch, but soon I’ll be back to my home health and teaching jobs.

Have thought of you both often, hope things continue to go well. A catering business sounds really cool, I am so jealous! Mr. beckwall remembers eating something called a “meat log” in Utrecht. Any idea what was in that delicacy?

Hey Coldie! Glad to see your mangy arse back here. How dare you let RL get in the way of us. Hmpf.

Hey Coldfire,

You’d think that with all that time away from us, you’d have managed to get into much more trouble.

Frankly, I’m disappointed.

Welcome back!

p.s. Guess what… I went to Amsterdam this summer!

That would be a kroket. It’s a deep-fried stick of meat paste, really. Quite the treat.

I saw ya’ hovering in the Lib Pit thread, and thought I might have been hallucinating.

It’s good to see that I’m not delusional, and you are back.

Cheers Coldy and Heloise. I hope everything is grouse in whatever Dam you’re in. :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome back! Oh and geez, would you look at that? You get your old job back!

(Told you you shouldn’t have signed anything in blood.)

Hey Clogboy! Good to see your name on the Boards again.

How’ve I been? Still unemployed, but picking up videography gigs. I’m theoretically a partner in the business, but it’s not official yet. I have some money on the books, but we’re getting ready to shoot a film in October so my ‘on-paper’ money is being deferred.

I still have the XJ600 (of course!), but it’s on loan. Pard Jerry sold his Ninja, so I’m letting him use it. Or not use it. I haven’t seen him on a bike for a while.

I’ve turned in paperwork to inherit my mom’s American Airline miles, so I’ll have to get over to Europe soon. Maybe late-Spring? Don’t know. Depends on how long it takes to finish the film, and upon how my finances are.

We’re shooting a wedding today at 1300.

Anyway… Greetings to you and *Heloise!
