So, how'd you get your username?

You ever read The Face on the Milkcarton? If not, there’s a section at the beginning when the protaganist, Jane, messes around with the spelling of her name–she winds up with Jayyne Jonstone or something like that. Jayn was inspired by that. Newell I just tacked onto the end. Jayn Newell was originally a fiction character I created, but I abandoned the story and just adopted the name as my alter ego.

(I think maybe I adopted it too well–a friend was dropping off DVDs for me the other day and swapped Newell for my actual lastname)

I’m from Navarra and that’s something that makes up a huge part of my identity. I just took off the part you foreign people have trouble pronouncing
Mangetout, I always split your name correctly. Having been born 40km from France may have helped there

Mine’s pretty simple. There is a show called Home Movies that is on television and DVD. I love it. The creator is named Brendon Small, and he also names his main character this. I really identify with that wierd little kid…

Brendon

Geesh, I never even saw that! But then I’m a Canuck and my daddy was French so I default to French interpretation when I see certain letter combinations.

Quiddity, I think you now have a responsibility to explain your username.

My brother was doing a card trick. (One of those “pick-a-card and I’ll tell you what it is” tricks. Standard fare.)

Anyway, the trick screwed up! He didn’t do the bit o’ slight o’ hand correctly to find the card! The card was picked, shuffled back into the deck, with my brother having absolutely no idea what to do.

What did he do? Took a shot in the dark. Proclaimed loudly (with a 1/52 chance) that the person picked the Ace of Clubs.

He was right. The person was absolutely astounded. I bear this username in his honor.

Hi. I’m Heidi & I am a ho. ::sobs::

Also a nod to Wilson from Home Improvement & Ned Flanders.

Shouldn’t it be Rufus Xavier Sasparilla? Also Lvgeo we should chat I love geeks!

From these guys.

hocow, LVgeogeek, we’re all dorks and geeks, otherwise we’d do something else with our spare time!

Nava, I already knew yours from a previous post, but I bet I wouldn’t have any trouble pronouncing it correctly.

In my undergrad years, I only once felt like I was going to a “real”* college (you know, big enough to have frats and sororities, where you pass people on campus and have no idea who they are and never see them again?) . I was the captain of our rugby team my senior (read:sixth) year, and we had won our game against NMSU that weekend.

On Monday, a cute gal I’d never seen before said, “Hey, Pat!”
“Oh, huh? Hey, what’s up?”
“You had a really good game this weekend.”
“Oh, THANKS” with a beaming smile

Needless to say, I didn’t pay much attention in the next class… too busy daydreaming (Structural Dynamics and Vibrations sigh)

Welcome to The Boards!

Sorry, but I’m always going to associate you with Mr. Hankey (that’s a good thing, I love that guy!)

My favorite Mr. Bungle song.

(I’m a big Mike Patton freak)

No doubt you’re familiar with the 18th century, Magyar-Croation epic opera based on the Greek mythological character Achilles …

But seriously folks - Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always liked dogs and canines in general. Since the user name ‘wolf’ was probably taken 3 seconds after this board was set up, I figured I had to add a little extra to that 4 letter user-name. For some reason, I thought of that ancient Rob Schneider “SNL” routine where he’d put all kinds of additions to people’s names such as the wolf-ster, the wolf-a-ramavich, the wolf-a-tollah, etc.
Eventually, I decided on wolf_meister.

As I’ve noted in several other threads, I took the name from the great Roman general Fabius Maximus, whose masterly delaying tactics I greatly admired when we studied him in Latin at school.

For those of a classical bent, the Latin verb “to delay” is cunctor, cunctari, cunctatus sum.

When my good friend had a baby, I became her “auntie Jen”. So now I call the kid my little antibody (because she clings to me, you see) and I’ve got a good username. I’m also a medical technologist, so it fits. I keep thinking I’d like to change it to Antijen, but I’m ok with it this way.

Already did it in this thread  I think it’s kinda nifty that googling ‘glomfuster’ brings up zero hits. I imagine someone else must’ve thought of it at some point, but it’s not been indexed in all of goole yet.

There is a pub in Perth called the Wet Shag. I was so disappointed when I entered and found out it was not a bordello. Maybe it had to do with the sign outside picturing a cormorant. So maybe your username originated from British fishermen cursing those nasty cormorants for trick bordellos :dubious:

Anyway, my username just dropped in when I had finished reading the Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling. Now look into my big shiny eyes and say awwww!

Thought so. How’s Sea Catch and all the tribe?

I like C S Lewis. Malacandra is the name of both the planet Mars and the archangel (or Oyarsa) who runs the place, in Out Of The Silent Planet.

Some years ago I did a fancy dress thing with a bunch of friends. I’m nothing like Tinkerbell, much more like Mavis Cruet…so the scareyfaerie was born.

Still fightin’ at the beaches
