OK, I know I’m a big time lurker… quasi-poster. So I’m not really that well known. (If you counted my total posts from before the great crash I’d be around 1200 I think. But thats after 3 years.)
Anyway, I’m the wierd guy at the party that is always there, but never speaks. But I thought I’d share, because, well… everybody else does, so why not me?
I’m gonna ask the lady to stick around for awhile. Like, you know, for the rest of my life.
I’ve got the ring and everything. I’ve had it for a good month or so. I’m gonna give it to her for Christmas. My plan is to formally ask her dad on the 23rd, when we’ll be spending the night there. (He lives out of town.) Then on the 24th (when we are doing our christmas due to family obligations making us insanely busy on the 25th) I’m going to give her “normal” gifts. (gift certificate to her favorite clothing store, a gameboy because she wants one for riding the bus to work.)
During the night, Santa will leave a present under the tree.
I’m starting to get a little queasy, knowing that this time next week, I’ll probably be in the beginning stages of planning this out. But I’m sure I’m doing the right thing here.
Leave a note from Santa that says her gift is on the tree, then hang it from a hook, or nestle it in the needles some how. Don’t hide it real good, just enough to make her search for a minute or two.
My husband proposed to me last Christmas and it was the sweetest thing. He didn’t do the idea above, but had thought about it and told me afterwards. I just thought it was a neat idea. The box that my ring box came in had a flap that when I lifted it up, said, “Will you marry me?” He said he had written it down because he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to say the words without his voice breaking.
Good luck! and I second the motion to let us know how it turns out.
Thanks to all the well-wishers. I’m more nervous about asking her dad than anything. I don’t think he knows, but her step-mom is in on the plan. She is going to help me distract the g/f so I can talk to him.
As for the giving of the ring, hopefully that goes well. There really isn’t a question as to what the answer will be. (She has only been pointing out diamond ad’s every single time they come on TV.)
