So, I'm about to do the deed

OK, I know I’m a big time lurker… quasi-poster. So I’m not really that well known. (If you counted my total posts from before the great crash I’d be around 1200 I think. But thats after 3 years.)

Anyway, I’m the wierd guy at the party that is always there, but never speaks. But I thought I’d share, because, well… everybody else does, so why not me?

I’m gonna ask the lady to stick around for awhile. Like, you know, for the rest of my life.

I’ve got the ring and everything. I’ve had it for a good month or so. I’m gonna give it to her for Christmas. My plan is to formally ask her dad on the 23rd, when we’ll be spending the night there. (He lives out of town.) Then on the 24th (when we are doing our christmas due to family obligations making us insanely busy on the 25th) I’m going to give her “normal” gifts. (gift certificate to her favorite clothing store, a gameboy because she wants one for riding the bus to work.)

During the night, Santa will leave a present under the tree.

I’m starting to get a little queasy, knowing that this time next week, I’ll probably be in the beginning stages of planning this out. But I’m sure I’m doing the right thing here.

Just wanted to share.

WHOA!

Like, DOUBLE WHOA!

Let us know how it turns out, man!

Tripler
WHOA!

Congratulations!! I’m so excited for you!!!

It’s so lovely to hear about this before it happens. I’ve never been on the inside of knowing someone’s about to propose.

wow, nifty plan.

best wishes.

Oh, thats such a sweet plan. =)

You’re truly my hero for going the old fashioned route and asking dad first.

Best of luck to you!

Leave a note from Santa that says her gift is on the tree, then hang it from a hook, or nestle it in the needles some how. Don’t hide it real good, just enough to make her search for a minute or two.

My husband proposed to me last Christmas and it was the sweetest thing. He didn’t do the idea above, but had thought about it and told me afterwards. I just thought it was a neat idea. The box that my ring box came in had a flap that when I lifted it up, said, “Will you marry me?” He said he had written it down because he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to say the words without his voice breaking.

Good luck! and I second the motion to let us know how it turns out.

So, you’re gonna do the deed after she says yes, right?

Oh, that sounds neat - good luck!

I probably wouldn’t formally ask her father’s permission first, though.
[sub]before you do the deed, not ask her to…ok, I’ll go now[/sub]

Tonight, the part of Tripler will be played by understudy Keanu Reeves.

Thats got to be just about the sweetest thing I’ve read all week. Good luck Screeme, I’ll be praying that it all works out OK for you.

I remember getting organised to propose to my husband it was the most nervous week of my life, but also one of the best weeks.

Good luck and merry Xmas!

Good luck!

So…how far along is she?

What?

Oh, sorry…it’s a southern thang…
Good luck.
btw…does she scream “Screeme”…'cos that would be damn funny…

Congrats…and much more subtle then my approach. My proposal was (after she gave the ring back to me after it was sized) “Ahhh…might as well keep it…”

Thanks to all the well-wishers. I’m more nervous about asking her dad than anything. I don’t think he knows, but her step-mom is in on the plan. She is going to help me distract the g/f so I can talk to him.

As for the giving of the ring, hopefully that goes well. There really isn’t a question as to what the answer will be. (She has only been pointing out diamond ad’s every single time they come on TV.)

Oh wow! Congratulations and good luck!! Keep us updated -I love hearing these stories…

My heart was pounding just reading your post. I’m so excited for you! Congratulations and best, best wishes!

Just adding my best wishes to the list. Really love reading these kind of sweet, loving posts when I get up in th’ morning.

'tis a bit nervewracking, I’ve been there. Best of luck.
