So, I'm about to start Star Trek: Enterprise

Yo! I was wondering where the heck you’d gotten off to.

Howdy!

“In the Pale Moonlight” is one of the five best episodes of Trek, in any incarnation, full stop.

Out of curiousity, did you pass through the animated series along the way?

And clearly it’s too late to form an opinion now…

Probably missed the thread, but all I really remember about that episode now was wondering how they managed to find somebody capable of that bad an acting job – to cast as the princess. Watching her attempt to play that role was just… painful.

I didn’t watch much of the first 2 seasons, because every time I sat down to watch, it would be some stinkburger like Shuttlepod One or A Night in Sickbay. I’m watching it again on Space, and I gotta say, excluding the above noted eps, it’s about as good as TNG in its first 2 seasons. And it was nice to see guys scooting around in their undies for a change-and the occasional welding helmet.

Another update and coincidentally enough…

God, I thought that one episode would be the nadir. I was wrong. A couple of episodes later…T’Pol gets…Jesus, I wish I were making this up…Vulcan mind-meld AIDS. Holy crap. This is MST3K material.

She didn’t just get mind-meld AIDS, she got mind-meld gay HIV. I snickered through the episode, but actually appreciated what they were saying. They do try.

Since a little while later in TOS vulcans were pretty freely practicing mind-melds, we’ll have to assume teh gay caught on!

The most endearing thing about Enterprise is what rubes Archer and Trip look like whenever they make first contact with some stuffy alien race.

That, and the sauna scenes.

Yeah, if you can keep from vomiting through that stretch of episodes, I think you’ll be just fine. The next two episodes, “Cease Fire” and “Future Tense” are decent, then everything from “Judgment” (aka STVI’s courtroom scene, take two) until the season finale is good, save the penultimate episode. I really liked season 3, mainly because it really seemed to come together at the end of that season.

Nope, haven’t gotten to the Animated Series yet. I’m thinking I’ll watch those concurrently when I rewatch The Origianal Series later this year.

Ah, you were right. “Cease Fire” was decent. “Future Tense” kicked a fair amount of ass. I actually cheered when the Tholians showed up. Too bad they didn’t show them on screen. Ah, well.

Let me recommend also the reviews at this site. Intelligent and often witty, and a nice numerical ranking that I generally agree with.

I watched the first two seasons, hoping and hoping that it would improve, but seeing very little evidence that it did. I watched some of season 3, becoming disgusted when Archer tortured the alien guy in the airlock. Maybe I was reading too much into it, but the whole story arc about the attack on Earth and the Enterprise’s new mission of revenge seemed too much like an apologia for Dubya and the War on Terror, Gitmo, Iraq, etc. (and Trip’s occasional Bush-like characterization also irritated me). I didn’t like their early take on Vulcans at all, although they fixed that, kinda, in the shows about Surak’s true teachings. I also was bothered by the gratuitous T&A with T’Pol and the anti-infection gel.

I came back to the show for a few episodes in the last season, which seemed to be much more fan-friendly than the others. And Slortar, they did show a Tholian in his/her/its entirety… met a bad end, though.

dalej42, if you’re determined to watch all ST, then by all means watch it. There are a couple of good episodes, here and there, but pound for pound I think it was the worst. Trek. Ever.
