But God forbid that there’s a book in the library about a child with two Mommies.
I live in a purplish area; there are a sprinkling of Biden and Trump signs, along with the occasional nutjob, like the guy who has plastered his sad little property with Brandon flags.
But I work in a very red area… So red that employees have no fear of reprisal for placing Trump stickers on company toolboxes and bits of machinery around the plant.
Here in very blue Arlington VA, there are a smattering of mostly-blue political signs, but they’re not everywhere. One sign that amused me was on a house I frequently drive by – it was a basic “Biden/Harris” sign. On the day after Biden stepped down and endorsed Harris, they had folded the sign so that it only showed “Harris”.
Perfectly stated.
I used to see a lot of Maga crap the past couple years. Not seeing as much lately. So there’s that, which is nice.
My Idiot neighbor still has his Maga stuff, but its all from the last cycle.
I’ve got an old sign (found it out in the desert) from 2016 pulled over the tank of an old rusty toilet out in my junk-pile. Makes me grin whenever I see it.
PM me if you want a picture
I think the ‘in your face’ style of Trump support you’re seeing is just them thinking this is how you win a political debate with your neighbors. No actual debate or discussion has to take place. Just be louder, more brash, willing to tell the other guy his facts are fake news, and you automatically WIN! If you have more signs, t-shirts, and hats you should win right? And if you don’t well then something must have been rigged.
I think more Dem supporters aren’t taking the bait this time and figure why waste your breath. Trumpers already think they’re right, think they already won, and it’s like debating a toddler about nap time.
I think most of us just smile, nod, and think “see you at the polls”.
I’m in a Massachusetts town that went 70%-ish for Biden, and my neighbor has a Trump sign (“No More Bullshit”, nice mouth on you), and down the street a house has a bunch of Trump flags. Today while I was walking a bike rider saw the flags and gave the (owner not visible) house a big thumbs up.
We also have a whackdoodle FB group for all the Trumpies in town, including another neighbor.
But this is obviously a better place to be a Dem, despite all that.
That has always been my favorite trump sign.
The man is nothing but bullshit. And he’s evidently totally buffaloed these morons with his BS to the point they think pure BS is pure truth. We truly live in Bizarro times. I weep for my fellow Americans even as I really want to clue-by-four some sense into them.
I have a hope that some of this will go away (somewhat) once the man is dead, because it’s not clear to me that anyone can inspire the whackdoodles in the way he does.
The existence of Christianity as an organized religion gives me reason to be skeptical
I don’t think it will go away, at least, not anytime soon, if “larger-than-life” figures like Elvis are an example. And that’s what Trump is, he’s an entertainer, or a Mega-Church preacher, and uses all the same tactics. I mean, most of us recall the trope of the Megachurch leaders caught in various scandals, and it was all denial, denial, okay maybe but it was exaggerated, all the way to “the devil made me do it”.
Fake news, alternate reality, don’t listen to them, listen to me. And for many cultists, and most die-hard MAGA it works.
But… once he dies, a lot of the actual, P&E stuff and influence is going to be divided, because I don’t think any one of the Trump wannabes has that same mysterious charm, and the RW disinformation sphere is likely to equally fragment their attention in search of clicks for the latest thing.
But, like Qanon, the fracturing, splintering, and the like is going to continue to damage any sort of political cohesion, so individual areas and states may well be swept by the local demagogue, and at the national level, who knows?
While by no means perfect, Pelosi and Jeffries have held the majority of the factions and beliefs that constitute the Democratic Party together and more or less on track. If MAGA/Republicans split, with the lack of a centralized opponent, I don’t know if anyone can hold enough of a center to oppose any sufficiently motivated minority that wants to nullify anything.
I hope I’m wrong.
But my biggest concerns, and back to the OP, is that sufficiently powerful local demagogues and authoritarians can still do untold damage. See DeSantis as a key but not unique example.
There are a few Trump diehard ass kissers who raise their profane flags but not many.
One property I routinely drove past , now has six flags flying of various campaign content some disparaging Biden and I can’t help but lay on my car horn every time as I drive past. I blast it. Except today was Sunday so I gave his neighbors a break. Otherwise blow me.
I bet the MAGAs take it as you showing support.
I’m reminded of an old saying from MAGA-heads back in 2016, when they would say, “Trump tells it like it is.”…When in fact, he tells absolutely NOTHING like it “is”.
I’ve seen the “No More Bullshit” flags & stickers on a few cars and houses. It’s around my area. That’s the one that cracks me up the most.
Get some of these:
I’m in Trump country, and a flag went up in my neighborhood after he was shot, but the enthusiasm for him has definitely waned since the last election. There are some billboards (some business supports Donald Trump), I saw an old Trump/Pence signed changed to Trump/ Vance, and there are plenty of bumper stickers, but none of those appear to be new.
I truly think the idea of Trump “shaking things up and changing the system” has proven specious, and his schtick is old.
I live in one of the most right-wing areas of an overall red state. We have Trump signs and bumper stickers all over, and an awful lot of MAGA hats. I can’t be sure that it’s more than last time, but I suspect so.
A Democratic minority does exist here, but you couldn’t tell from signage. There’s nothing that I’ve seen.
You’d lose that bet.
Inexplicably, I’m reminded of this classic:
Flying a blue flag in crimson territory … yeah … less brave than foolhardy.
Is this an OK place for a small bit of yard-sign irony?
One neighbor long displayed a “Jesus is My Savior. Trump is my President.” sign. It put me off, but not enough to overcome my yard sale addiction, when she held a sale. But her stuff was all very overpriced, quite out of line for yard sale merchandise.
I asked if she’d come down on a particular item, and her response was, “I can’t. My mother needs surgery, and we don’t have health insurance, so I need the money.”
The Jesus/Trump sign remained until she moved away.
