So long!

Start spreadin’ the news, I’m leavin’ today…

Quick recap for those who don’t follow my life like a great novel or the latest reincarnation of Survivor: Gunslinger and I met in the thread Very Vaguely Creepy in autumn of 2000. We’ve been courting via email, instant messenger, postal mail, and in person ever since. He’s always lived in Texas; I’ve lived in New York, Mississippi, and then New York again.

7 AM Sunday morning this changes. I’m moving down there to be with him. We’ve pledged to be together forever, and forever starts now.

However, I’ll be in transit for two days, moving in on a third, won’t get a phone line installed until Thursday and then there’s the matter of getting internet access… all told, I’ll probably be unable to get on the boards for a week.

Truck is packed, cooler is loaded, directions are printed out in triplicate in case I lose one copy, maps are highlighted and marked to the right page, CDs are carefully selected and placed in easy-to-reach location over visor, gas tank is full, tire pressure is checked, oil is fresh, apartment is waiting, and love is on hold. I’m ready to run.
My theme song for this move is the Dixie Chicks’ Wide Open Spaces.

Wow! Wishing you joy & happiness forever.

You go, girl. I’m lookin’ forward to another Tejas Doper.

Congratulations on true love!

Drive safe, yet fast.

Have a safe journey. I guess we won’t get to meet at Pocono. Give a honk if you pass through Scranton on 81.

Best of luck.
Now get some sleep. An adventure awaits.

Best of luck with the move and everything else!

…and thanks for all the fish.

Sorry couldn’t resist.

Enjoy your trip and drive carefully please! I’m sure I’m not the only one who will be waiting to see a post in the next few days that you made the trip safely.
I’m am so happy that yet another doper finds love.

You go girl! Try to remember that a certain Texan will be on pins and needles the whole time you are in transit (even if he doesn’t admit it). I recommend lots of telephone calls with tons of oogy stuff.

“oogy stuff”

LOL

I’m here!

Howdy, neighbor!

Damn, you went by so fast I didn’t even see ya’.

Hope everything’s going well for you.

Btw, Was it hot today or what? 110 in the shade…ouch & I was out framing a house all day (no shade)

gotta roof tomorrow

It’s been hot all the time. It’s taken me three weeks to adapt even just enough to be able to walk around downtown without getting short of breath and needing a sit and a drink. It gets this hot in New York, too, but not for months straight! (And not at all, this year.) And in Mississippi I lived in a shady wooded area - the streets here offer no shade, just reflected pavement-heat.

No job yet. Becoming distressed at this.

You have probably said elsewhere, but what kind of job are you looking for?

BTW, Yeah it is HOT all summer here. Actually I think we’ve had a really mild summer this year. Yet it seemed especially warm yesterday and I’m outside usually all day everyday.

Well good luck, I gotta go, I’ll check in w/ya later…think cool shade and margaritas.

Find a copy of Lyle Lovett’s “You’re Not From Texas.”
Seems like it could help with the transition.

Have you done a “Ya’ll” yet?

Ooo I hadn’t seen this incarnation of Doper Love! Congratulations you two! And give yourself a little time to adapt to the heat! Why, in a decade or two, you’ll be sweatin’ like a native!

I say “y’all” anyway. Always have.

As far as a job, I’m barely qualified for being an office assistant; in the more-qualified-for-it department, I’d do data entry, I’d answer phones and do customer service, I’d even work retail - I used to work at an office supply store. The trouble with retail is that you can’t get a full-time job in retail. And I need a full-time job. Two part-time jobs don’t work - 20 hours a week in retail means four hours a day five days a week, and usually in the least convenient times for working in another job. I actually did find a full-time job opening at Kinko’s and applied immediately but who knows. It doesn’t help that I have no references down here, and nobody wants to call New York just to find out if I’m likely to steal things.

Welcome to Texas!

racinchikki – welcome to Texas darlin’! (I moved here 20 years ago from NY in the beginning of June. I had to stay indoors or in the pool the entire summer!). You get used to it.

For job hunting: why not try a temp agency? They do the background checks so that potential employers don’t have to call long distance to check ref’s. Plus, they usually have a bunch of temp to permanent jobs that you can try out.

Good luck!
