Miriam and Elizabeth were born on February 7th, and spent their first week in the NICU, due to pretty low birthweight and some breathing problems, but they came home on Wednesday, are nursing like gangbusters, and gaining well. Their older brothers are being extremely affectionate, and are always wanting to pat the babies and give them toys, which is nice but alarming.
My mother had 4 kids (including newborn twins) under the age of three and survived. She always said it was the happiest time of her life. I’m hoping the same for you.
Sunspace, you should be damn grateful I haven’t inflicted my kids on you yet. Especially the eldest. He’s psycho.
I mean that in a loving and motherly way, of course, but we really have had people say, “my, your son is so friendly. Could you get him to let go of my leg?”
It was only thirty-five weeks of pregnancy, but let me tell, that long pregnant with twins is an eternity. The last week was hospital bedrest, which wasn’t much fun. I’m very glad to be not pregnant and throwing up anymore. Also I’m holding Beth as I type this, and she’s really snuggly.
Congratulations to all of you! I’ve been reading your blog, and the girls are beautiful. And as I’ve said, I wish we were closer: we’d be happy to watch Gnat for a while.
Congratulations! Getting the twins out of NICU and home has to feel great. (Certainly it was in my case). Now just be ready for no sleep for a long time.
Is that grandpa in one of the photos helping out? It takes a village to raise twins.
OMG OMG, the beautiful girls have 2 older brothers? Four kids! My goodness!
May I ask a weird question? You note on your blog that you’re half-Japanese, and the nice grandfathery-fella in your most recent entry looks like he might be your J-dad. Over here (I live in Japan), with twins, the one born first is referred to as the older brother/sister to the one born second, and go through life with that designation. Do your Japanese relatives refer to Miriam and Elizabeth that way?
