The protesters are just following Trump’s advice. He may bitchtweet about professional protesters incited by the media(how does that work, again) interfering with his transition, But
Trumptweet timestamped 8:29 PM - 6 Nov 2012-About Obama Reelection:
“We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!”
He didn’t just call for protest. He tried to incite the forceful overthrow of a legal election.
So you’re saying the problem with Democrats is that we aren’t more like Trump, and that only if we did as Trump says, things would be better?
Trump is going to be president, and we’re going to have to deal with that in a way which is constructive and which creates a path for sane governance to reassert itself the next go-around. Directionless violence isn’t the way to achieve that.
What I’m saying is that Trump is a fucking hypocrite with his tweets, and that his personnel picks so far show that the protesters fears are not unfounded. The Republicans are going to back him, and he isn’t about to listen to anyone that can’t profit him in one way or the other.
What should people be doing instead that would be effective(and don’t lead off with “Well, what they shouldn’t be doing is…”-that’s not really what I’m asking for)?
He’s the quniessential hypocrite. Everything he has ever said or stood for is what he now criticizes others for. The truth for him is what is convenient for him.
Trump himself evidently believes this was a valid tactic when applied to the Democrats. Why isn’t it a valid tactic now?
Of course, from my point of view it was never a valid tactic, then or now. And his exhortation then did not actually inspire riots.
But then again, Obama was a fundamentally decent man who was well within the political norms for the country, so why should anyone riot?
Trump – and again, to be clear, I don’t condone or valorize the violence – Trump is not. Trump is an outlier, a President-Elect with no prior elected or military experience who ran on a disjointed, contradictory, and deceptive series of claims. I’m not inclined to now be amazed at the fact that many people are interested in expressing their disquiet. Obviously I’d urge them to do so peacefully.
I agree totally.
By the way any claim that the media is in on this or even supporting this is totally bogus. I’ve seen the reports on several different channels, and all are talking about the damage and disruption, with very little about what they are protesting about. The police are getting the airtime, not the protestors.
Well, people voted Trump because they wanted someone who would bring change and disrupt the establishment. Here is change and disruption. Promise kept!
Be vocal and unashamed of the things you believe in. Tell your friends. Donate to the cause of your choice. Volunteer your time. Write persuasively about why you believe that what you believe is right, and put that writing out there wherever people are going to read it. Consider those who disagree with you not as unsalvageable hateful idiots, but as potential allies who can be won over with a little bit of effort. Find a way to bridge the gap between those who’d be on your side if not but for, and a way to teach those who aren’t on your side because of.
The extreme left has been out of control most of this campaign. It started with the Bernie supporters disrupting Hillary’s rallies.
Then they started disrupting Trump’s rallies.
Now the extreme Left is throwing a fit because their candidate lost a fair election. Hillary couldn’t even beat a guy that was being openly mocked and laughed at by many. A guy caught on tape bragging about grabbing women by the p***y got a sizable portion of the women’s vote.
The Right has popcorn. We’ll share after the show is over.
Seriously, I’m ready for things to calm down. The election is over. It’s time to come together. Congress won’t let Trump get away with anything too outrageous. The courts can stop him too, if needed.
Forgive me for not trying to bring my sledgehammer down on every mole that pops up. I have other things to do. Other people, or just the passage of time, will have to take on the “he’s an insane racist/homophobe/anti-semite/whatever”. I did my part.
I’m on the record of poiting out that in reality most Republicans are not racist/homophobe/anti-semites, but as I come from the land of Arpaio that had elected him shering for decades you are only doing your part in allowing guys like him to do his damage for decades. The point here is that they are not racist on the whole, but Republicans are too much tolerant of those racists.
(Arpaio was just defeated in big part because he became so unhinged and abused other laws, not just immigration ones)
