I’ve said over and over again that I wasn’t trying to imply that she should have given them more time. It’s not my fault you assholes can’t read.
See? There it is again. It’s not our fault that you can’t get out a cogent thought in type and then stand by it, either.
Of course, as everyone well knows, it’s unwise to try and prove you wrong. You just constantly weasel out of it.
Sam
Take a remedial reading class, fuckhole. I didn’t say what you want me to have said. All my posts have been perfectly consistent. I have nothing to “weasel out” of.
bullshit
Oh come on DtC, Q.E.D. composed a very thorough post of the statements you made concerning this subject. Post #48 I believe.
So, let’s do this. You admit that what you typed is not what you meant, and we can all just drop the subject. Or, you can continue to back yourself into a corner, and lash out like an animal being threatened by hungy predators. Then we can all point and laugh when you have another post meltdown.

I realize this. On the other hand, no amount of “cleaning” is ever going to repair holes or broken glass. The post I responded to inferred that the previous tenants should have to pay for ALL of the cleaning, which is demonstrably false.
Implied. The reader infers, the writer implies.
:smack:
No…uh…I’m actually right…because, uh… it’s a regional dialect.
Is there anyone here other than you who feels this way?
Nope. Don’t think so.
OP was frustrated by irrseponsible tenants. OP vented. DtC first claimed it was too short a period of time. Then claimed OP was insensitive. Then claimed OP was a bitch for posting after denying that he claimed that the OP gave too short a period of warning to clear out. The rest of us who read DtC’s posts were just too stupid to understand what he posted.
Pretty much SOP for DtC.

This is exactly what I was thinking. You call the utilities and say “I am leaving and not paying for any gas/phone/electricity after this date” to protect yourself, not as a convienance to your landlord. Had the OP been less than honest, she would have just moved in and started using electric/gas/phone service that the tennant was paying for. I have never rented month to month just so I wouldn’t have to face a quick move. Also, every lease I have ever signed told me that I would be charged for cleaning if I left the place a mess. The OP hasn’t done anything wrong, she just had the audacity to want to use her property.
I never said it was “too short” a period of time. I said it wasn’t a generous amount of time.
Does not being generous make one a bitch?
I’m not a seasoned renter, but if someone told me I had 2 months to get out of my house and find another one, I wouldn’t think 2 months is a long time.
Possibly the tennants from the OP feel the same. Yes they rent on a month by month basis, but they have been in the same place for 7 years - it is not like they have moved a lot after being given notice. So from their emotional status, they are probably similar to a lease agreement.
Considering the law and the contract, 60 days is more than generous. Considering the OP’s situation, where she had to move soon, 60 days is absolutely generous. One is not beholden to their renters. No matter what, it is still the Landlord’s property, and ultimately, they can do with it as they please within the law and the contract.
When 30 days notice is all that is required to oust a renter, 60 days is more than fair.

No, showing a complete lack of sensitivity about how stressful it is, expressing dismissive contempt for the fact that it cost the (admittedly good) tenants a plannned vacation and complaining about something that was the OP’s own responsibility makes one sound like a bitch.
I never said she had to give more time. I’m only saying that she could have shown a little more understanding in her OP about how tough that probably was on the tenants.
So if I borrow your car, say for a week, and you call me on Friday and tell me that you need the car on Saturday, is it understandable for me to return the car messy, with my crap still in it because you didn’t give me enough warning?
C’mon DtC…
Sam
So a lack of sensitivity about the stressful lives of others makes one a bitch or at least sound like one?
To be fair, I’m using Socratic Irony to needle you a bit, because you’re so obviously a knee-jerk… uh… jerk. I’ll be generous, though (heh), and assume you don’t actually mean half of what you write. I’m guessing you’re aware of this on some level because of the weaselly and random inclusion of the “sounds like” qualifier, as though it somehow mitigates calling the OP “cold”, a “twat”, “insensitive” and, yes, “bitch.”
The OP was incorrect about the tenant’s responsibility to transfer utility contracts to her name. You, however, were entirely correct when you categorized yourself as an asshole.
Hell, I’ve moved in a weekend, with kids, from 3-4 bedroom houses plus garage, after a week or so of packing and tossing. Once you know you’re going, start packing, no problem.
What can be hard to do in two months is finding a new place, coming up with first/last/deposit, etc.
I’d be sympathetic to anyone who had two months to find a place and move, including the OP and her tenants.
Some of the posters in this thread sound like they expect anyone renting month-to-month to have another place standing by and enough money to pay for it. That’s unrealistic, even if it is how things are in the real world, for renters.
