So what was the final voter turnout?

I was hoping that we’d have record voter turnout yesterday, but that appears not have been the case. From the numbers I’ve seen, it appears that about 100 million people voted. Anyone know what the total number of eligible voters in the country is? Is there a website with a breakdown of what groups had the highest turnout?

100 million voters sounds like quite a lot. I think in the recent past, it’s been as low as 60-70 million. I think I have a site that tallies national elections. BRB.

I heard on CNN an hour or so ago that turnout was about 51% (of eligable voters), which is up from 49% last time. (Not sure if they meant 96 orn 98, though there are always more voters during presidential years.)

According to CNN here, the total vote count for the four top vote-getting candidates totalled somewhere around 101.2 million. Another article on the site here says that represents about 52 or 53% of eligible voters, compared with 55% in 1992.

Makes you think about all that vast untapped potential Gore could have fed off of to trounce Bush, doesn’t it?
