let’s pretend I’m a new guest, okay?
And let’s pretend that nobody’s gonna make fun of my ignorance, which needs some fighting…
and just 'splain to me what I am just too stoopid to figger out, okay?
Because I just don’t get it…
In the early days of the Dope, there was no quick reply. And I’m a creature of habit.
I’ve always used the “post reply” button at the bottom left corner of the page, or (if I want to quote a previous post) the “reply” button at the bottom right corner of the post.
What’s up with that huge honkin’ “quick reply” window?
How should I be using it, and why?
If you don’t want all the options, such as bolding, hyperlink and smilies you use the quick reply. Honestly, I asked myself the same question last night and tried it for the first time.
If I recall correctly, it also used to be tied to the “Reply With Quote” functionality, in that you would have to click on the Reply button in the bottom right corner of someone’s post to activate it. TubaDiva changed that default behavior so that it now is active as a simple Reply window.
As other have said, Quick Reply is just faster. It’s a trade off, either you use the post reply button, or you use the quick reply but you either don’t get all the extras, or you have to write them in by hand.
Also, if you start typing a quick reply and change your mind, you can hit “Go Advanced” and it’ll take you to the normal reply page, and transfer over what you already started typing.
