So who's going to see Sarah's movie?

Um…except that it’s YOU I’m talking about. Funny about that…

How about taking your threadshitting to the Pit, boys.

Just making sure everyone realizes I was referring to Dingbang, not Jophiel.

What movement is she leading? The Tea Party? My understanding is that there are no “real” leaders in that movement. How is she leading the movement any more than any other pundit (seeing as she’s not a politician anymore)?

One would think that a sitting governor would have more credibility at leading any kind of movement than one who quit halfway through her elected term.

Jophiel already offered a good response regarding the lawsuits.

I’ve seen plenty of interviews where she’s been asked questions about policy in which her answers were, shall we say, not on point or superficial at best, and indicated a profound lack of knowledge of the issues involved. Granted, she’s not the only person who has this tendency.

She hasn’t been savaged by the media. She’s been COVERED by the media, because that’s what she wants. When the media coverage is about mistakes she’s made, or bad decisions she’s made, or actual negative events, that’s not “savaging” her - that’s news.

She wanted the spotlight. She’s got it, and it’s not always ass-kissing. If she does something stupid, and it gets media coverage, well, that’s the way the news works. She doesn’t get to determine that all media coverage of her is always positive, all the time.

I already admitted that this was my opinion. I simply cannot see any net positive contribution she’s made to the public political discourse. I can, however, see a large number of negative contributions.

Okay, have it your way. Since the thread has been so neatly derailed by you guys, I’m willing to let it die.

That’s one hell of an attempt at cornering the “ironic hipster” poster market.

I apologize. I responded before I read through to the rest of the posts and saw your request. I’ll stop the hijack.

Ah hell: no worries, friend. Our furry companion of nearly 19 years is dying and we’re on a day-to-day emotional roller coaster. It tends to color my responses here these days.

This documentary has Oscar smell all over it. Rotten Tomatoes has given it a perfect score. 0% is perfect, right?

I’m so sorry. That is always a tough situation.

Haven’t read the thread, but I don’t know why people wouldn’t go see it. Everybody should go see Sarah’s movie. It’s beautiful and melancholy and very very well-done. I saw a sneak preview with the director in attendance. I hope it does very well. It deserves to be seen and make money.

Well, the numbers are in. It averaged, about $5,000 per screen, not bad all things considered (enough to place it in between the per-screen averages of “Horrible Bosses” and “The Zookeeper”), but not really blockbuster material either.

I’ve never figured out why opening weekend revenues are any indication of the popularity (let alone the quality) of a movie. Most people who go on the opening weekend are pretty much taking a shot in the dark. If you wait for the second or third weekend after opening, all the reviews will have come out, along with the word-of-mouth (which tends to be more trustworthy than the pro reviews). I’d say that third-weekend revenues are a more accurate indicator, myself.

That depends on where the popularity is coming from. The second or third weekend might give a better indication of the movie’s quality, but the opening weekend will give a better indication of the stars’ popularity. And the latter effect is by far the dominant one here: Nobody’s going to go see this movie unless they’re already a fan of Sarah Palin, and anyone who’s a fan of Palin is probably inclined to like it.

Another shining example of our Eighth Amendment protections.

For what’s its worth, on rottentomatoes the Paliography has 644 user reviews, and a 0% fresh rating. Still 0% from critics, too.

Apparently the movie is a flop:

What are you talking about??? The film, like Sarah Palin, is an unqualified success! The producer’s describe it as “highly sought after” and go on about the “strong audience reaction” and how they’ve “been inundated with requests from people wanting the film to be made available in their market”. Clearly, millions of people are clamoring to see this awesome movie!

It’s a huge success. Two weeks ago it was playing on three screens. Last week it disappeared, playing on no screens. It’s become one of the greatest stealth movies of all time. You want to see it but you can’t.

Everybody was just waiting for it to come out on DVD and PPV.

We love you, Sarah!

Here’s the flip side: a decidedly unauthorized documentary about Sarah Palin: Sarah Palin: You Betcha! Trailer here.

I think it’s supposed to be opening in New York and L.A. tomorrow (Sep. 30th). Somebody go check it out and let us know what you think. Sounds fun!
