Oh my God, no. I don’t think you appreciate how hard you have to work to get on my ignore list. It isn’t enough to be wrong; you have to be consistently belligerent and snotty about it. No indeed, those on my list don’t wonder, and those who wonder aren’t on my list.
My ignore list just got its first member a couple days ago. Normally posters I’d rather not read appear infrequently enough that they’re more amusing than anything, but having been spending a lot of time around GD lately, this guy’s been getting on my nerves. Unlike cowgirl’s case, his posts are usually pretty short, four lines max and maybe a link, but they’re still not worth the effort of reading. My brain will try and reason them out anyways and it always results in a headache.
He throws out ideas like they’re self-evident and unarguable, doesn’t address the counter-points others have made, and basically ‘debates’ on an emotional level only (if you can call it debating at all). Reading a thread he’s participating in is like reading a novel where someone inserted a random fart joke every few pages. It breaks the flow and doesn’t any anything worthwhile.
Mmm. Not arguing with that one. I’d probably go for Nightwing first, just cuz he’s closer to my age, but… Mmmm.
Enderw24. You rock. thanks for the giggle.
I have no one on my ignore list, and I’m pretty sure I’ve not annoyed anyone sufficiently on these boards yet to be on anyone elses. I will try to up my annoyance factor
Then it is not a total waste of time. like reading just people you agree with is.
If I ignored everyone I disagreed with this board would have no character at all. But some posters don’t add spice to the soup, they are more like spoiled meat.
I disagree.
No one. I even find the occasional strange semi-troll types entertaining. I haven’t had to use ignore on any of the websites I go to, not since way back in the late 90s on an old chatroom website I used to belong to. The trolls could set off annoying macros that would pretty much boot everyone out of the site or obscure everyone else’s text unless you had them on “ignore”.
I know the type of place! The one I participated in didn’t have the ignore option. It was pure pain to deal with those types.
Horrible wasn’t it? Ours didn’t have it at first either, the only thing you could hope for was to fool them into hitting (what was it?) ctrl-alt-F4? If I remember correctly it was called Virtual Places, a fun place, but pretty primitive compared to nowadays.
The only person I have on my ignore is long long-banned Zenster. I don’t think I had really noticed him online until I had met him in person several times, and he was such a dickish blowhard that I ended up ignoring him online because I couldn’t help reading his posts in his annoying, know-it-all, braggart tone of voice.
Shockingly, he was banned for excessive junior modding.
It’s a huge rite of passage and I’m proud to say I made it. It’s an exclusive group–nothing but the best of the worst make on** The Pig’s** List.
I have come to a realization over the last few weeks that I am on at least one Doper’s ignore list. I don’t know whether to laugh or become indignant. Overall, it makes me want to laugh.
Wouldn’t be a neat feature if you could get at least a count of how many ignore lists you were on? That way you could gauge your impact on the boards. And even watch that number change over time as you plot your strategy for how to lose friends and alienate people. A benchmark sort of thing.
Sometmes when I’m enjoying a particularly entertaining Pit thread, I feel the urge to participate, sometimes with a drive-by, and occasionally with a substantive observation (at least that’s the way I see it). That my points can often go unremarked upon for several subsequent pages leads me to conclude one of two things:
- My observations are so spot-on, such self-contained worlds of Essence Of The Subject At Hand, that no one can possibly find a contrary word to say, and even a simple “hear! hear!” would seem redundant.
or
- I am on the “ignore” lists of an alarmingly large number of Dopers.
The conclusion I come to on any given day will be influenced by factors such as my current level of self-esteem, my degree of crankiness, and my blood sugar.
Did someone say something? I thought I heard a voice…
This is one particular Doper who has not addressed my several questions to him/her. Ok by me–he’s a bit of a wanker/attention whore anyway.
Look, I said I’d get back to you. Jeez!
I think the sole inhabitant of my ignore list went away, since it’s been so long that I’ve seen the “this person is on your ignore list” post that I had forgotten the option existed.
Just Carol Stream. The board has gotten a lot more enjoyable since I started ignoring her.
I would put brazil84 and Ají de Gallina on my ignore list, but I don’t think they’re actually trolls. I think brazil84 is just an idiot and there’s hope for Ají de Gallina yet. Plus I don’t want to get in the habit of putting people on my list just for disagreeing vehemently with me.
She’s been making a concerted effort about that, and she’s actually gotten a lot better. JMHO.
OK, you heard the man. We need to make sure Der Trihs gets to every Dopefest!
I’m considering it for exactly the same reason. (Well, not exactly the same, but black and gay are all the same to him, so it’s close enough.)
I didn’t know you felt that way about me!

Because of this thread, I had to look. Apparently, I added someone at one point. But that person quit posting almost 5 years ago. Fear my Power of Ignore!!!
