So You Think You Can Dance 7/25-26

I wouldn’t call Kameron beautiful in the classical sense, but he is very cute with a masculine confidence and openness that is appealing, and during his dances with lacey (especially that one contemporary routine by Mia) he was oozing sexuality. I think Mia was trying to say that he will get a lot of votes from young girls who fantasized themselves being in Lacey’s place.
In contrast, although Danny and Neil are handsome, neither seem very approachable. Dominic is a little too young-looking for me, but his dancing has been really good. I like Pasha more than Danny, but Danny is definitely the best technical dancer of the men.

I am pissed off.

If you know a dance is going to be performed 10 times in one night (a great misstep on the part of the producers in the first place), don’t make it a “message” piece whose message will certainly be completely diluted by the end of the evening. And for god’s sake don’t stick that self-indulgent scream in there.

I wish I’d posted last night, because I pegged that it would be

Kameron and either Jamie or Lauren

I thought it was kind of funny last night when Lacey, Lauren and Sara were standing in a line before Cat announced who was in the bottom two. Lacey- who easily gets by on talent, and Sara, who has really excelled as an all-around dancer despite no formal training- were dressed rather conservatively, completely covered except for upper legs and arms, respectively. Lauren, on the other hand, was going for the nearly naked approach. I think she’s somewhat talented but I really get a vibe from her that she’d push any of the others in front of a truck if she had the opportunity, whereas the rest of them pretty much (except maybe for Danny) are grateful just to have made it this far.

Looking at the three of them I thought “ok- which one of them isn’t just relying on her dancing ability to get votes?”

A Marine dress coat AND a song about “the war” was sure to bring controversy. Of course, I don’t think you can sneeze anymore in this country without someone getting offended.

Sigh.

No surprises on the results. I thought Jaime and Kameron were both gracious losers.

Has Lacey ever been in the bottom 2/3? I think she has a very strong fan base because not only does she get the male vote, but anyone who loved Benji last year will be pulling for her. I like her okay, but I’m rooting for Sara.

As far as men, I’m not sure I’d be sorry to see any of them go. Pasha and Danny have more training but lack the “x” factor, IMO. Neil and Dominic…neither of them ignite a fire in me to pick up the phone and vote, vote, vote.

No, Kameron even commented that last night was the first time he’d ever had to solo (and it kinda showed; it was the most blah of the bunch).

I think Lauren is gone next week–she’s perky enough, but she’s not in the class of the other 3. One is tempted to assume that Jaime’s votes will siphon off to other dancers who resemble her (in both style & more formal training), which suggests Lacey & Sabra.

The guys are tough. I’m not sure who was voting for Kameron, so I don’t know where his votes would go. I think Dom had a terrific solo and was mostly there because his waltz with Jamie stank. A good coupling next week may buoy him, since Neil & Danny have been in the bottom 3 before, so there’s not that large a support for them (I think Pasha is the one untouchable for now, because of his looks/demeanor/personality/skill–a lethal, romantic Russian combo).

What was that hideous musical number in the middle, some unholy mix of Rolling Stones and Deee-Lite? I listen to some truly wretched 80s-homage pop, but that was beyond nauseating…

I think Lauren’s a good dancer, but she just doesn’t seem to have much voting appeal. I could see her going next for the women.

Perhaps I still just kind of like Dominic, but I somehow got the feeling last night that he suddenly realized how much he wanted to be there and didn’t want to go home. Maybe I’m projecting.

I have never voted on this show, but I voted for Dominick. I mean, I really like him, but what pushed me over the edge was how he apologized to Jaime as the judges were critiquing him.

OMG!!! That is totally what it was! I could tell the Stones part, but I couldn’t figure out what it was mixed with. Bleah! it was awful!

I’m glad Dominic is still in it. I liked Jamie better than Lauren (though I did like Lauren), so I am bummed she’s out.

I realize I’m a few days late on commenting here, but…

  1. I would do Kameron in a heartbeat
  2. but I would totally want Neil as a boyfriend, I adore him
  3. hi Opal?
  4. can they please give Lacey a dance where she’s not hypersexy? Don’t get me wrong, she does it well, but I feel like in every dance she’s oozing slut all over the stage.
  5. I love Sara (not just because that’s my name too) and I really think it’s a girl’s year to win
  6. Like some other people have said, I’m also at a point where I can pick out a choreographer’s style out of a lineup. That opening number had Mia written all over it!
