Pas de deux (step for two). I don’t know much about ballet, but I think it just generically means a “duet”, for the male and female dancers. So it’s not a dance style, per se – and I couldn’t see why this routine couldn’t have been called “contemporary”.
Bootees this week: Mark & Komfort
Final Four: Chelsea, Joshua, Katee, Will
I think if anything, Komfort dancing with Twitch only highlighted how he’s completely in another league than her in movement and fluidity. And her solos always look exactly the same (you can’t say that about Gev or Twitch); she’s a one-trick pony and deserves to go. Mark suffered from an awkward pairing and a set of dances that didn’t play to his strengths too well. He’s also nice but blah compared to the other guys, who are either far more charismatic or skilled (or both). He’s not bad, but I just don’t see him bumping any of the others.
I’m definitely looking forward to the group dance tonight, the Bollywood number – it should be a lot of fun.
Congrats to Wade Robson, Shane Sparks, and Mandy Moore for taking 3 of the 5 Best Choreography nominations in this morning’s Emmy announcements (links are to the dances for which they were nominated).
The editing of that was annoying as hell. The point of Bollywood numbers is the overall effect of lots of people doing identical moves – and that’s totally lost when you’re cutting around like a monkey with Parkinson’s.
I totally agree. It was cool though the way they shot the arms in the beginning. Very eastern.
Boy, dancers are really having to turn up the heat and dig deep. Two new partner dances, a solo, and two group numbers. And I think they’re all doing a terrific job. Must say I really liked Nigel’s routine with the boys. Very entertaining.
What was that Mia Michaels monstrosity? Half the routine done off stage where no one but those on the first rows could see it, not that they were missing anything. Were they supposed to be begging and pleading for help from Mary or what? Just plain wierd.
Gev’s solo in the results show was one of the first all year that left me wanting more. I’m sad to see him go.
It is very strange to see Comfort move on. I don’t think doing a good routine in your own dancing genre really qualifies as “stepping up to the plate”, especially since she got commended for keeping up with Twitch. And I disagree that she has developed the most through the course of the season, certainly so compared to Joshua.
She is not on the same level as the remaining dancers. Imagine her being teamed up with Will next week.
Question – what was the point of the solos by the bottom four? Since the judges no longer have a say, the eliminations had already been determined at that point, based on the previous night’s voting.
-
A chance for the contestants to redeem themselves on their last time on the show.
-
Fill out air-time.
I didn’t necessarily expect her to make the Final 4, but for Kherrington to go before Komfort is truly ridiculous. One’s a good sport for doing her best with a limited set of skills, and the other one’s a genuinely good dancer. And even though she did have a couple of consecutive off-weeks, Kherrington also had harder routines than Komfort did and fared just as well, if not better. I hate to think that there was, shall we say, a demographic bias that kept Komfort in, but it is the only reasonable explanation I can think of.
Sorry to see Gev go–I find Mark nice but boring at this stage of the game, and can’t imagine he’ll last another week.
It’s COMFORT. Like the word.
The worst dancer gets to stay because of the pity factor. Also, websites like Vote for the Worst have trained a contingent of malcontents to keep the worst around.
I agree there probably is a demographics bias in play as well.
I think the partnering change-up has really shown who can adapt and who has been propped up by their partners.
I wouldn’t feel bad for Gev or Kherrington, they made the tour and they can sit back and relax a while.
They can still appear on the show in a supporting role and if they are smart, they would come up with a great dance on their own which could be used to fill time.
Kherrington would be wise to take some acting courses and Gev should try out for movie or advertising roles.
Oh, they’ve got charisma to spare, so they’ll be fine.
But it does beg the question–now that Comfort has passed on to another round, what happens to the tour. Jessica sure was under the impression she would be participating, and it’d be hard to exclude someone from the Final 8, so will it be 10 Guys/11 Girls?
My theory is that they were victims of the tomato/cilantro/whatever food poisoning. At least, that explains all the writhing around on the floor and the deathly pallor of their makeup.
By the judges’ say, Kherrington technically didn’t go before Comfort since Comfort was already voted out and only jumped in for Jessica. And Kherrington *is *in the top ten, which Comfort is not.
If this season is like the one before it, there will be some unjustified voting (as in good dancers going home too early, like with Sasha last year) though in the end there will be a worthy winner (Will, Joshua or Katee).
No. They were isolated cave fish, discovered by spelunkers and shrinking from the glow of their REI headlamps.
IIRC, there are two alternates on the tour each year – one guy and one girl. My guess is that Comfort will take Jessica’s place in the Top 10, and Jessica will be the alternate.
Enough of the Twitch and Will pimping from the judges. I am so sick of it!!!
You can tell, that Nigel favors Twitch. He’s a one trick pony with no partner skills whatsoever. He can do no wrong in the eyes of Nigel. I still can’t get over that bed routine he did with Kher. You might as well call it Twitches solo, because he basically wasn’t dancing, Kher did most of it and she only showed up in the middle of that routine.
How about constant suck-up to Debbie Allen and her protege Will. Isn’t it ironic that he seems to get lead in boys dance lastweek. Debbie Allen must be paying them alot of money to keep Will in, first the Alvin Ailey dancers and then the show casing Complexion this week…I can’t get over the shameless, nauseating, over the top tongue slathering they give him.
I’m a big Mark and Josh fan but it looks like the judges are aiming for Mark to go out next. He was one of the best until they purposely sabotaged him with the Two-Step and Jazz routines. I bet they sabotage Mark even more by pairing him up with Comfort next week. Its so blatantly obvious.
The judges really want a black guy to win it this year and I hope its JOSH!!!
I bet you guys 5 bucks that next weeks group dance routine will have either Twitch or Will taking the lead.
Thank you. I was going to say it again since she’s back on the show. That “Komfort” thing is really starting to get to me. What’s so hard about spelling “Comfort”?
