So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 - 2008

I assumed as much–on the grounds that if you hadn’t, you might have referenced Nigel. It’s not that it’s some horrible sin to be unoriginal in this kind of thread, it’s just that it made more sense that it was such an obvious thought that both you and Nigel had it.

I enjoyed all the guys solos, but especially Twitch’s–he got bonus points for really bringing in some originality and for costuming.

I didn’t enjoy Comfort’s solo–didn’t see what the Judges saw in it. I did enjoy Jessica’s solo, but hated her outfit–another of those dress-thingies that aren’t quite long enough to be a dress, and have an obnoxious degree of flair. Kherrington’s solo was a lot more interesting than I expected it to be, and I’m not sure why my expecations were so low.

He may not show his personality while offstage or in front of the judges, but when he’s dancing, I feel all sorts of emotion and personality. It would be a shame if people didn’t vote for him for something other than his performances, but this is the same audience that voted Taylor Hicks the American Idol, so my expectations are low.

Personally surprised about Will and Jessica being in bottom 3, but quite a few of you called that one. The two going home was a given. Comfort was truly unique and talented. Will miss her quirkiness.

Comfort’s solo was awful compared to last week (which was awesome). Don’t know where Nigel was coming from on either night. Hope he’s more himself next week and not this harsh, vitriolic person that inhabited his body this week.
Will’s and Twitch’s solos were the best. Twitch showed a whole story and was funny, entertaining and technically very cool, very unusual for the normal hiphop routine given in solos.

When does the outcome begin to be completely in the hands of the callers? And when does the elimination switch from 2 each week to 1 dancer/week? If anyone knows, speak up.

If it’s like last season, from now on (top 10), the judges have no say and the guy and girl with the lowest vote goes home each week until the four people left in the finale.

Also, the partnerships go away and each week partners are drawn at random.

I think the “dance for your life” solos are not factored in as much as they would have you believe. Since they are choosing a cast to go on tour, I would imagine dancers have been eliminated for reasons outside the show such as work ethic, physical durability, desire by staff and choreographers to work with them, and how well they get along behind-the-scenes.

But it sounds a lot better on camera to blame an elimination on a “poor” solo.

Mea culpa. But with Kourtni and Kherrington, who can blame me?

If the rumors over at the SYTYCD boards are to be believed (and several links that pop up in a Google search)…

Jessica has dropped out due to some sort of injury and Comfort is back in the competition. Also, and here I’ll say supposedly since I didn’t see it, Comfort had something up on her MySpace page that alluded to the situation. Along the lines of “Tune in this week for a big surprise!,” but apparently she was made to take down that teaser information by the producers, et al.

However, since I haven’t been able to find an ‘official’ release (although I’m not sure there would be one until after Wednesday night), I’m not positive if any of the hits I got are reputable. realitytvworld.com? tv.yahoo.com? That sort of thing.

A tv.com blurb led to this Los Angeles Times blurb.

Just saw an ad for SYTYCD on Fox at about 9:30 PDT. The ad confirms that Jessica is out due to an injury and Comfort is back. I wonder if they ad would have run if the rumors weren’t rampant beforehand?

Can I vote for the pregnant lady?

Difficult choice on whose going home.

I just rejoined the SDMB, in large part to participate in this thread!

I think Mark and Kherrington should pack their bags. Mark is technically good, but his personality is flat. The other guys are just so much better and/or engaging as performers. Kherrington was obviously benefiting from her partnership with Twitch. Tonight, she just didn’t come through in any of her dances.

I want Comfort to go, but I think she earned herself another week.

I wonder how the ‘top 10’ is going to work? Because Jessica clearly said something about resting so she’d be healthy for the tour, so clearly she thinks she’ll be on it. If Comfort gets voted out this week, okay, maybe they’d leave her out. OTOH, what if any other woman goes? It wouldn’t be fair to exclude a dancer who legitimately made it to the top ten, but it wouldn’t be at all fair to exclude Comfort if she makes it to final 8 or 6 or whatever.

Maybe add back Thayne and do a Top 12 tour this year?

Does anyone know how having broken / cracked ribs work? I admit to being clueless, but for some reason thought that you’d have a bit of a brace if so. Also, anyone have any ideas on the “IV Real” thing going on? Many have speculated about the t-shirts’ origin all to little avail and then after tonight’s hand signs involving Nigel, it’s been brought to the fore again. Anybody?

Oh, and as of now, I’ve fallen in love with Gev’s showmanship. I think he’s surpassed Mark as my current favorite.

Another fun-filled show. Chelsie has another wardrobe malfunction. Katee is far and away the best lady. Joshua and Will are tops for the guys. It really shows what a power couple Katee and Joshua were.

It is interesting to me how good Chelsie, Courtney and Will are with new partners and how phenomenally bad Gev, Mark, and Kherrington are after the switch.

If those dancers cannot adapt to new partners, then they are dancing on borrowed time.

Comfort will be eliminated this week because of the routine where she dressed up as a space hooker.

Mark and either Will or Twitch will show up in the bottom two on the men’s side. The judges seem to want Mark gone, but Twitch could be a surprise boot.

Will? Are you mad? I was just coming in to confidently state that no one else has any chance at all of winning the whole thing. And at this point, what the judges want is somewhat moot – they have no say in the voting from here on out.

I think Joshua will win it all. It’s funny how goofy he is when he’s interviewed and in the practice-room videos, but when he dances he’s pure sex poured into pants.

Will and Katee are amazing together.

Chelsea is my favorite girl right now. Joshua has always been my favorite guy.

I really like Mark now and I hope he stays a little longer. (I’ve been watching him since that hip-hop with Chelsea)

I thought Gev did well last night. Great solo.

Poor Twitch got the short stick. Comfort.

Courtney is doing well dancing with Josh.

Kherrington was blah. No spark.

Final four: Will, Joshua, Katee and Chelsea.

I really enjoyed 'Lil C as a judge. I agreed with much of what he said.

I want Comfort to leave purely because she’s the one who didn’t belong there based on previous performances, not because she didn’t dance well last night. Comfort’s make-up for the hip-hop routine was bizarre looking when she stood still to talk to the judges.

I’d like Kherrington to have another shot–if she does as badly next time as she did last night, she should be gone.

How does Katee get all the luck of doing the “first time on this program bits”–and how do the choreographers get the luck of having her perform their first time ever bits? Last week her looks were probably better suited to the Bollywood number than anyone else’s would be, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s more flexible than some of the remaining girls.

Important notice to the lighting designer–when you do the flashing light thing? I don’t watch the routine being lit. I can’t–it drives me bonkers. So I lose any opportunity I would have had to develop an appreciation for hip-hop or whatever (Last night was not the first time with flashing lights which drove me bonkers).

Having suffered through cracked ribs before (took a hard side kick in martial arts class), it depends on where the break is and how severe. In my case, there wasn’t any wrapping or bracing that would help (middle rib on my side), and I had to live with excruciating pain when I breathed or twisted. There were a couple of times when I sneezed, and nearly blacked out from the pain. :frowning: Took about 2 months before I could lightly work out again, and 6 months to heal fully.

I’m torn between Chelsie and Katee for my favorite girl. I love them both.

I agree with Eureka that Comfort doesn’t belong in the competition anymore; I’ve never been impressed by Kherrington; and something about Courtney’s face bothers me. She looks like she perpetually belongs on the set of Gidget or something. Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s attractive, but her face actually distracts me from her dancing (and she’s really not a bad dancer).

She did? Missed that! When?

Seconded! Will is definitely my favorite guy, and my overall favorite dancer. Mary Murphy (who has toned it down some but still gets on my nerves) nailed it the other week when she said that he would not be out of place among the Alvin Ailey dancers. And I agree with jali that Will and Katee together are amazing.

First of all, one false move and Jessica’s dress would be bleeped out by censors.
Yay, so glad Comfort got another chance to dance.
So tonight voters make final choices instead of judges AND new partners.

Lots of dances, so I’ll try to keep it short and sweet.
**
Chelsea - Solo Sorry but all the solos by the ballroom dancers look the same to me. Doesn’t work w/o partner. C
** Gev Solo
looked like just a succession of tricks no cohesion or muscicality ** C**
Contemporary Funky hair on Sonya the choreographer.Gev danced like a Zombie and dressed like a nerd sometimes the pair of them looked like they were string puppets, all jerky. No connection ** Gev B- Chels B**
** Jive** cute but not great. knees needed to be higher and move faster. She was better because that’s her thing. Gev C Chels B

Courtney Solo** Picky, but I hate the way she waves. Dance seemed manic, moves never seemed to be quite completed. ** B**
** Joshua Solo** Loved it. Was unique, humorous and very physical. Went w/music. A
Hip Hop
Josh perfect in the persona of the dance, showed confidence. Coutney excellent for no experience liked the lift and Josh mouthing the words at the end. ** Josh A Courtney B+**

Kerrington Solo** Followed music better than other girls, sure can lift that leg B+
Mark Solo Best solo so far. Really used the music - a routine not just series of stunts. ** A**
** 2 Step** Props to the pregnant choreographer, boy could she move. Spins not together, small hesitations between moves, just didn’t move smoothly. Mark looked better w/hat on. ** Kerr C Mark C**

Comfort Solo Good but pretty umimpressive compared to other hiphop dancers B
Twitch Solo ** Loved the way he used moves to totally represent the music. Makes great use of long legs. ** A

Smooth Waltz Didn’t feel a connection. No extension in his arms. Not entertaining or fun. Comfort looked uncomfortable and awkard ** Comfort C Twitch C+**
HipHop Both their specialities so expected great and they delivered. 2nd best routine of the night. Her controlled back bend over his knee with no support was impressive as well as Russian squats. ** Comfort A Twitch A**

Katee Solo OK but not unique or distinctive ** B-**
Will Solo Very nice. Beautiful body and lines. His personality coming out more and more. ** A**
Broadway Great use of the boat without having it overshadow dancers. Loved the kicks the did together holding on to the sides. Worked great as partners. Fun and entertaining Will A Katee A
ParteDue (no idea how to spell this) The positions Katee had to get in were unbelievable and she made it look effortless. Not sure any of the other dancers could have pulled this routine off. Wonder if some strings to arrange for the famous choreographers to be paired with these two. Whatever.
Best of the night by far. ** Will A+ Katee A++**
