So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 - 2008

This week’s Entertainment Weekly answers the question we all have been asking!

Their uberscientific results:

Mary Murphy: 125 decibels
Jet airplane taking off: 120 decibels
Rock music: 110 decibels
Vacuum cleaner: 70 decibels
Quiet library: 30 decibels

Cat’s dress. Oy vey.

The judges were a downer tonight. I think the dancers are getting worn out learning 2 dances per week. They’re just not giving it the punch that I’m used to seeing. And with so many dances, the show is losing some of its freshness, IMO.

Time for Komfort to go. Not sure about the guys.

I thought the Bollywood routine was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen on television. Katee and Joshua mostly continue to wow me.

I don’t usually get to see this but we watched over half of it tonight and I agree that the Bollywood number was awesome.

I did not get all the praise for the Kherrington and partner hip hop routine. I thought it was blah and out of sync. I thought Comfort and her partner had a better routine.

I’m glad they can now stop using last names now to differentiate the girls.

Chelsie and Mark continue their wardrobe malfunction streak. First, Cat had to help Chelsie with an errant shoe, then Chelsie was eating blue feathers and this week Chelsie surreptitiously lifted her dress back onto her shoulder. Mark followed with a suspender mishap.

Joshua and Katee bring it every time they step on the stage and tonight was no exception. The Bollywood ending had me cheering and was a great way to close the show. If you are eagle eyed, you might have spotted Katee ejecting a shiny bracelet or bangle due to the rapid hand movements during the routine.

Bottom 3: Comfort / Thayne, Will / Jessica, and Twitch / Kherington

Comfort and Thayne’s routines were not that bad, but I predict the unfortunate lift where Comfort’s skirt went over her head and the negative judge comments will doom them this week.

I posted my comments. My favorites were Jessica and Will’s contemporary and Katee and Joshua’s Bollywood. Overall I think it was a pretty good night. No idea who is going home.

Will and Jessica, but only because of Jessica – Will is safe, as is Twitch.

I felt bad for both members of whatever couple it was where it was suggested that the guy was justifiably tired of carrying his weaker female partner and it was time for a new partner. It’s not that the sentiment may not be true, it’s just that it’s mean to make someone respond to a comment like that on National Television and in front of the partner–before any eliminations have taken place. Next week, assuming that the weak girl goes home and the guy gets a stronger partner, it’s ok to ask him if he enjoys his new stronger partner, but I felt bad for both of them last night.

Loved the Bollywood routine and the Bollywood costumes.

And there’s a line somewhere between the repeated tickets for the “Hot Tamale Train” and some of the comments last night about not wearing that dress in the kitchen (for cooking) where I’m just not keen on hearing Nigel comment on how sexy the girls are. It’s probably just me being prudish, but there were a couple of comments last night and have been others in the past that I just didn’t need to hear.

FWIW, she’s always been an eccentric dresser, ever since she started out over here. I think it adds to her considerable charm. I’m glad to hear she’s doing well - she seems a very nice, genuine person.

Tonight’s show was quite entertaining. For one I liked Cat’s dress, very feminine and becoming. Nigel got a haircut, looking quite nice. However, he must have been nicked in the process and lost a bit of blood. This in turn made him quite cranky, as you well soon see.
**
Chelsea/Mark Salsa B- **no good salsas performed so far this season, and this was no exception. No passion, no hip action. Did not like the side by side sequence at all. She was better than he slightly, but still no connection between them. Camera lost them before their ending move, not good. Did not get the judges raves.

**Broadway B ** Great quote by Mark, “She’s like hot and stuff.” Chelsea smiled too much, but other than that not as bad as Salsa, more energy.

Comfort/Thayne Hip Hop B I think she is very pretty, elegant even. They were a little too smiley for the routine. Bub I thought it was very sexy and well danced. Judges kept harping about the chemistry, but with Chelsea/Mark the connection wasn’t mentioned.
**
Contemporary B+** Looked so light on their feet and Comfort had beautiful extension, I really liked this routine. Nigel comments were extremely cruel (“choreography so good I wish we could have seen someone else dance it”.). Re watched it after all the negative critiques and I still disagree. She did look the part and was in character, noticeably at the end sitting looking scared and confused.

Jessica/Will Contemporary A Ah, again with no shirt, and the legs! Mama Mia. Did not care for the music, sounded like it was from a spooky movie. Definitely lots of chemistry here. The routine went on several seconds past the ending of music, seemed like a mistake even if it wasn’t. Choreography not my cup of tea,but well danced. Might not go well with voters.
**
QuickStep B-** She just seemed a little sluggish and slow compared to Will. He, however was amazing. Critique on his costume out of like as he doesn’t pick it. Agreed with Mia, he does need a new partner. He was definitely diplomatic when asked by Cat if he agreed with Mia about his partner.
**
Kerrington/Twitch Krump B ** Boy did his attitude come out in spades! Very aggressive and Buck? She had the face, but not the emotion or attitude, camera lost them at the end, that sucked. With a different partner Twitch would get an **A

Tango C** Her face all wrong for the character, no fierceness or aggression. Twitch was totally believable. Kerrington’s performance was so obviously superficial. Nigel’s full of crap on his critique of Twitch. Really raked him over the coals.
**
Courtney/Gev Cha-Cha A** Fast and fun. The steps were cute and matched the cues in the music. Palpable chemistry going on here. She was sexy and fluid - cute couple, energy out the wazoo. Great quote by Courtney, “Can you say crotch on television?”
**
Jazz A** Loved it. Energy, excitement, they were having fun… Music fast paced and it really kept your attention all the way through. Gev’s handstand was unbelievable.
**
Katee/Joshua B+ Viennese Waltz** Spins and lifts truly lovely and well executed. That “snake” move at the end was genuinely fantastic. Joshua, hip hop dancer, looked so comfortable and in control, no fear at tackling dances so far removed than he’s accustomed to. Judges very hard on Josh. Always impressed with Katee.
**
Baliwood A+** Wow. Best routine of the night I thought. The sideways bounces so good. Very hard routine physically. Hands and feet positions were totally right. Loved the whole thing.

Judges seemed to be pushing certain couples in order to influence voters rather than being fair about performances/routines. Courtney/Gev best tonight, with Katee/Joshua a close second

Bottom Three: Kerrington/Twitch, Chelsea/Mark, Thayne/Comfort.

Going Home: Thayne or Mark, probably Mark.
Kerrington or Comfort, should be Kerrington, but judges have it in
for Comfort, so she’s probably doomed.

Total Ranking for the night
Joshua/Katee
Gev/Courtney
Mark/Chelsea
Will/Jessica
Thayne/Komfort
Twitch/Kherrington

Despite having a really off-night, Twitch/Kherrington may be safe from the Final 3 simply because they’re both incredibly likeable. That would put Gev/Courtney in the Final 3 again, but Komfort and Jessica are the most vulnerable, and Thayne is toast, as he should be for having zero chemistry with two different partners (I also don’t see him having a hope in the solos against Will, Gev, and/or Twitch). Given how bad her solo was last time, I’m leaning toward Komfort getting the boot, though she’s also clearly out-of-her league in the technique department (especially compared to Twitch or Gev, who come from the same general dance genre as she). Jessica’s biggest obstacle is that she’s perceived as the millstone around Will’s neck, though she did show some signs of improvement last night (though perhaps not enough). Courtney and Kherrington are largely unknown variables in a solo scenario, though the former didn’t really get any kind of praise out of her effort last week. Still, given the great track record they’ve had in the different stylings, it would be a pretty big upset if either of them got the ax.

I also loved the Bollywood routine, but didn’t like Katee and Joshua’s other dance. It was the first dance of theirs that didn’t surprise and delight me this whole season. Until I saw the Bollywood, I thought they might wind up bottom 3.

Although I like Comfort, I’m pretty sure this is her last week. I thought that contemporary routine was a horrible choice for them. I really did not get the love for that choreography. I think Comfort and Thayne would have done a great job with the jailbreak routine Kherrington and Twitch had a few shows ago. Thayne’s madcap grin and Comfort’s serious, determined nature would have rocked that!

Kudos to Will for being diplomatic when asked about Jessica. Jessica has been awfully lucky to be partnered with him. If she had been partnered with Chris/Thayne, she would have been gone weeks ago. And, based on her performance in some of the group routines, I think Comfort would have had a better showing with Will.

I thought Kherrington did a good job with the krump routine, considering it was casting her way against type.

Bottom 3 Comfort/Thayne, Will/Jessica, Chelsea/Mark

Going home - Comfort/Thayne

Just because this has been bugging me: it’s “Comfort” not “Komfort”

Thank you, that is all.

Will’s solo – my god.

Yep. He looked like he’d fit right in with the Alvin Ailey guest dancers.

Will should never, ever wear a shirt again.

I’m torn with Will. He is technically stunning, yet has the personality and emotion of a stale piece of Wonder bread being slowly chewed by a three-toed sloth before it’s had its morning coffee.

I liked Comfort, but her leaving in the next week or two was inevitable. The right people stayed IMO.

FWIW, I posted this *before * Nigel said it.

Also, I thought this show had Cat Deeley looking her best.

Her hair, though…it poofed out SO FAR in the back!

Her hair is BUCK!
