So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) Spring/Summer 2010

I missed the first few minutes – who’s “Toni”?

Dunno on Toni, some sort of ballroom dance expert.

What stunned me was Cat saying they made it throught he episode with no injuries – right after Billy clearly showed he was having trouble with his injured knee (no surprise – that Bollywood dance must have been a nightmare all that crouching with bent knees) and right before announcing that Lauren was being seen to by the medics…

So, will those two be next week’s bootees?

Hopefully not Lauren, she’s one of my favorites. Actually, the only person I really don’t care to see leave would be Billy. Yes, that contemporary with Ade was great, but he just doesn’t do it for me.

I think the two I’d like to see leave would be Billy and, seeing as how I have to chose one, would be Robert. I like him, just not as much as the others.

I really enjoyed the routines last night. Considering all the injuries and the extra pressure from last week’s bombshell (2 going home this week) I think all the dancers are holding up extremely well. They still seem to be having fun and enjoying themselves.

I have never really liked Billy, but I have to admit that last night his routines were really awesome. The contemporary with Ade and his solo was the best of the night IMO. Kent was really great as well along with Lauren. Did not like Robert so much. Can’t figure out what it is about him that just leaves me flat when I watch him dance. Technically he is very good, but there just doesn’t seem to be a vibe between him and the audience.

Jose had done really well and gone beyond what anyone might have expected, but I think it’s time for him to say goodbye and after last night’s performances my second choice for departure is Adechicke. He is just a lot of athleticism and not so much grace and finesse. There is also a lack of connection between him and his partners. He is better than in the first few performances, but he still is not on par with the other dancers.

I personally liked the format this year. Liked seeing the all stars again and I feel that their standard of dance helped pull the performance quality up for the new contestants. I like just being able to focus on one dancer instead of both. I wonder if they will have another season in the fall like they did last year. It was nice to have another installment without having to wait another year.

I have to admit, in the last three weeks or so, Billy has really grown on me.

I hope Lauren is okay. My husband noticed something was off with her right after her first dance last night. He said, “her smiles were much slower to appear and didn’t last as long as usual.” and noted she didn’t seem her typical bubbly self but rather seemed to be trying to power through pain.

Jose has done an amazing job on the show, but it would be a shame for him to stay on while Robert, Billy or AdeChike left. For the second one to leave, I hope it’s AdeChike or Robert over Billy.

I think it was the best non-Alex number of the season. Really fantastic.

He’s so colorless and void of personality, like an airbrushed pretty boy who can obviously dance but doesn’t exude much else.

Yeah, at this point, I’m tired of the judges always giving him an A-for-Effort. He’s got a ton of charisma, but has plateaued in terms of ability.

His solos never cease to amaze, but you’re right–I don’t remember any dancer in the history of the show that so consistently shows absolutely no chemistry with any of his partners. None. He’s always dancing in the same space, but never really with them.

Hope Lauren is OK, too.

I’m surprised that Lauren was in the bottom 3, I could have sworn Robert would have been doneski.

But the moment Lauren was dancing tonight I knew she’d stay in the competition.

I was annoyed by Nigel’s snark about, Stop saying all the girls are voting for male dancers and pick up the phone to vote yourself.

Yeah – except that I suspect the audience for the show VASTLY skews female. There simply aren’t an equivalent number of guys-who-will-vote-massively to offset the votes from the girls-who-will-vote-massively.

I agree about Robert. There does seem to be a lack of “click” with the audience, though he’s a great dancer. I feel the same about Jose and Adechike. I’m just not feeling a connection with them. Kent and Lauren are my favorites.

And Mia Michaels, will you PUH lease STFU? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGggggh.

Okay, so Kent “mugs” a lot. If it weren’t so honestly just part of who he is, and if he were just putting it on, I’d agree. The boy can’t help it. The bubbly just MUST escape. And stop picking on Jose and Adechike too. Jose knows he’s not technically the “best dancer” already, does he really need to have it crammed down his throat every week after every dance?

BTW, does anyone know what happened to any of the Season 1 dancers? We see a lot of several of the dancers from other seasons, but none from Season 1.

I don’t get how people keep saying Kent is so cute. I think he’s kind of freaky looking in a bad way. Good dancer for the most part, but he looks like a baby piglet or something and it’s hard for me to get over the fact that he looks all of 11 years old. Watching a man and a woman dance, I want to feel like I wish I was dancing with that man. I want to feel an attraction and a pull… I don’t want to feel sorry for the woman for having to dance with a piglet man-child and pretend she thinks he’s hot.

Well yeah, cute as in cuddly puppies cute, not cute as in “Oh my Gosh he’s SoOO keee YUTE, I want him” cute.

But he’s not all that little, look at him next to Cat, she’s over 6 feet, and with those heels? He’s just a late-bloomer insofar as his looks maturing I think.

I agree. When I see him I think, “He’s so cute, I want him as a younger brother.”

And it’s cute that he has such an obvious crush on Lauren (he has great taste).

Super surprised about the outcome last night. Shocked at Billy being in bottom 3 over Robert and Adechicke. Knew the judges would have a tough time between Billy and Lauren. Billy’s solo was really awesome, but he had been in bottom 3 for the last few weeks. I did like him much better than Robert. So, I think Ade will go home next and the final 3 Lauren, Kent and Robert. They didn’t showcase any allstars last night. That’s usually my favorite part of the results show.

Robert was so completely flabbergasted when he wasn’t eliminated. I understand why they kept Lauren, and have no problem at all with that decision – but I like Billy a lot, and think he got screwed by the math of the double elimination this week. His solo was wonderful.

I think once the voters heard Lauren was injured, lost votes. I don’t think she deserved to be in the bottom three and I understand why she was chosen to stay.

This season is so messed up.

Btw, I think Kent is adorable, in that “aw shucks, 18 year old kid” way, especially one who’s so great in his own style (contemporary) and Broadway. He may not have peaked in the looks department yet, and I’m okay with that.

Forgot to add, I am slightly bitter about Billy leaving before Robert or AdeChike. Billy did indeed get screwed by the math and the judges failure to say goodbye to Jose last week.

Agreed. Billy had a rough start, but he’s grown by leaps and bounds these past few weeks. His solo last night was I think the best I’ve seen.

I really did expect Robert to go. I didn’t want him to, but I was sure it would be Robert and José. Or, barring that, Adechike and José. Watching Billy go was hard, with him in his peak like that. I don’t imagine that was easy for the judges.

I console myself with the fact these kids get to go on tour and will get really good jobs and the recognition they deserve.

I think the judges are manipulating it a lot more than previous seasons. We’re now down to four contestants and every single elimination has been through the judges and not the voters. Granted, even if they wanted to, they couldn’t get rid of Kent because he’s never in the bottom three. But it’s so much easier to keep propping back up their favorite dancers that hit the bottom three again and again because, when it comes down to it, the votes don’t really matter all that much. Voters still never get the final say.

Well Billy aslo got “saved” last week when he opted out of dancing even though he had the go-ahead from the doctors.

Personally, I think Robert is better than Billy anyway, more masculine in his dancing. If I were God of the SYTYCD World it would have been Jose and Adechike.

I don’t think the judges have been that much different this year from other seasons. It’s just that with the injuries it has caused a skewed grouping for several weeks. Nigel did say that it was all in the voting from now on. I can’t remember at what point the judges stepped out of it in other seasons.
We do need to remember that it’s America’s Favorite Dancer, not America’s Best Dancer, and in that case I think the votes should count earlier than in the last two weeks.
