I’m struggling between him and Lauren as my top pick. I think at least in Kent’s case the talent matches up with the hype. He’s a great dancer. I do think Adam is right-- the guy is very well-suited for Broadway.
It’s so nice to see Robert dancing some masculine roles really well. I really think he is an incredible dancer as well. By force of personality I think Kent will most likely beat him but I don’t think he’s less talented.
I’m not quite so impressed with Adechike, but I have to admit he knocked it out of the park with that hip-hop routine last night. It was fantastic. I only ever watched the last two seasons of SYTYCD, so I don’t know Comfort from past seasons, but she blows me away every time I see her dance.
I’m predicting a freak accident where Kent and Adechike are goofing around on a stairs and fall over each other, tumbling down on top Robert and Lauren.
The entire show consists of poor Jose trying to do every possible variety of dance…
I actually was not impressed with Lauren’s first routine, to be honest and couldn’t understand why the judges were falling all over themselves in their praise. Just my opinion on that.
Memo to Kent, look at the judges when they are talking to you! First they are trying to give you praise and constructive criticism and second it is just rude to be acting like you are in outer space.
They aren’t as annoying because rarely are they amateurs who happen to be able to dannce (except for Jose) as is the case on AI. These are generally very accomplished professionals who are getting recognition here because of the generally low profile of dance. That is why their performances seem better and also they seem better able to take criticism.
I was outraged that Weds., Nigel said “it is of course fine for Billy to decide not to dance, after all, he knows his body best” – then turn around and say last night that someone (and I was reading what he said as that someone being he, Nigel) thought he was slacking and should be sent home for it. Given the number of injuries this season, I think it is a bad, bad message to send, that we prefer that you perform even if there is an increased possibility that you will be if you do.
I actually feel a little ripped off from last night.
Like the judges reneged on their deal with the audience (we watch and vote, they decide who leaves). The judges SHOULD have told us (imo) "Jose, you are VERY good at what you do and your strong presence is a wonderful thing. However, we just cannot justify you staying in the competition over these other two, stronger dancers. "
Instead we have to wait until next week and have two out? Why? So they can get rid of both Billy and Robert at the same time???
I agree. The implication that Billy should be pushing his body in a season where two contestants have already been forced out of the competition due to injury is ridiculous. They should have rewarded him for that decision, IMO (and for the fact that he’s a great dancer who has grown a lot.)
I’m hoping they did it essentially to create a little drama in a season that has struggled due to all the injuries. It certainly gives us all something to gossip about.
Finally, I love Robert, but I see for some reason that everyone keeps trying to send him home. So, if he goes, I guess he goes. I just hope José goes first.
I didn’t get that at all. He didn’t say Bily was slacking, he said how can we be fair to the other two dancers if we send them home when you didn’t have to do squat this week. I really think if the doctors clear you, you should dance. I do feel he weasled out of it, if he was in a professional dance troupe he would have danced. He is in a competition, he should not sit it out.
Anyway, I am not that impressed with Billy, excellent technical dancer, but that’s about it. Sure he is better than Jose, but neither one is going to win anyway. Kent is going to run away with it.
I can see Nigel’s point. What would keep a dancer who felt he wasn’t already on the bubble with the judges from deciding to sit out a week here or there for strategic reasons? You get a week to rest up your body, and if you’re lucky, you could ‘just happen’ to sit out the week you ended up with quick step or maybe the equivalent of that Russian folk dance disaster.
And it destroys the rhythm of the show. For three weeks now the audience’s votes have meant NOTHING. Why should people continue to vote? Why should they bother to watch the results shows if they figure the judges will just toss whoever sat out this week or no one at all?
I think the retention of all 3 dancers this week was completely unrelated to Billy’s injury. I think the judges want to whittle down Adecheke first, and the voting spread threw a wrench into that plan.
The format change has really been a train wreck for the competition appeal of the show. 12 judge-selected finalists, that mostly compete individually with all-stars so no chemistry is built, further judge-selected down to 5 without regards to gender or pairing under an illusion of public voting, with injury attrition affecting 30% of the determinations.
Why the hell am I voting and why do I care? I’d just watch random all-star pairings without the sham competition wrappings and enjoy it just as much.
I loved Robert’s reaction to the mentioning of the double-dose of Laurens…I’ve had a thing for all-star Lauren since the early seasons.
I don’t necessarily disagree – I’m just saying that having allowed him to do that, and having said publicly on Weds. that he was allowed to do that, you can’t come back 24 hours later and call him a slacker.
Jose is my favorite.
Kent, Lauren and Adichike are next.
Robert and Billy are last.
I’m loving the All Stars more and more. Comfort really has grown (I like her now) and Mark draws my eye every time he’s in a group dance. Twitch makes me smile.
Neil is another of my favorites. Courtney too - she’s a sweetheart.
Dominic made the transition from SYTYCD to ABDC and back without batting an eye.
One question: why do they even bother having a quickstep? If every single time the couple who does it is in the bottom three, says something about the dance.
I’ve noticed they don’t do that Russian folk dance anymore since the season 6 fiasco.
A major problem with the show has always been that most of the voters (I assume from the audience) are young teen girls. Someone like Kent (young, cute, non-threatening) wins lots of votes. Someone like Robert (who looks like the villain in a Disney movie, Gaston of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST) appears masculine and thus threatening, loses.
Agreed, this is the most uninteresting season – despite all the extremes to which the choreographers are pushing people, undoubtedly the underlying cause of the accidents. And despite the fact that this is an amazing, AMAZING collection of dancers. They screwed it with the format.
