Ashley, because of her injury, which needs 3-5 weeks to heal.
Is the show going to take these injuries seriously? The choreographers need to dial it back a bit, if they’ve injured 20% of the contestants to the point of having to leave the competition.
It was so we could watch her shake her ass. Which, I gather, is the point of the tahitian dance.
I thought the B-boy routine was one of the worst I’ve seen in a while- it just showed Jose’s weaknesses as compared with [the other guy’s]. I don’t think it served him well at all, but what the hell do I know; the judges seemed to like it.
Robert sort of irritates me but his dancing to Travis’ routine brought tears to my eyes.
First Lauren’s strap snaps, then her dress rips… this girl just can’t keep her clothes on! (not complaining)
ETA- has anyone bothered to learn the Napoleon and Tabitha routine?
She and Alex were my top two picks. I kind of feel like whoever wins now will have an asterisk next to his/her name.
(The judges seem to think so, too – at least, Nigel does: did anyone else catch him saying to Robert [or was it Kent?] that he has a real chance “now that Alex is gone”? Yeesh!)
He said it to Kent (who’s smile faltered a little as it was being said). I agree on one hand that Alex was a phenomenal dancer and I was rooting for him…but Nigel forgets season two when Benji Shwimmer beat Travis Wall…pretty much by force of personality. Kent definitely had a shot to beat Alex that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Yes, Misnomer, I did notice Nigel make that remark. Not a very kind thing to say.
I thought Kent and Lauren had the best performances overall. I loved the shoe routine with Lauren and Billy (don’t care for Billy that much, but he is getting more comfortable and joyful.)
Liked Travis’ piece very much and the music was perfect. I’d never heard that song before. Robert was great, but I agree that the disco was so-so.
Adechike was not good at all last night IMO. The salsa was stiff and awkward and in the chair routine Kent was so much better he just was almost a background dancer instead of a principle.
Jose, Jose, Jose. I am a big fan of his joy, excitement and daring to try anything, but this week was not a good one for him. Even the B-boy just showed his movements weren’t big or energetic enough. I always have thought that when I see him in solos. Other b-boys were so much better and original. Jose’s just look ordinary. I was surprised he didn’t end up in bottom 3. I would have put Adechike and Jose in bottom.
I predict Kent and Lauren and Robert in final 3. We’ll see if they can stay healthy.
I have to admit that now that Alex is out of the race, neither my wife nor I really care all that much about who wins this thing. Robert & Adechike leave us completely cold (and Billy’s not too far behind, though he had a very good showing this week, little did that help him). Jose’s nice but clearly out of his league, and Kent just seems to much the newbie and aw-shucks. That leaves Lauren, who is quite lovely, but who never would have struck me as the obvious Best of the Ladies. I think doing a top 10 instead of a top 20 was quite deadly–fewer people to root for and less cream to rise to the top (especially UTR, which is often the most fun part of the show). Sorry to see Ashley go–man, the numbers are really taking their toll…
Under the Radar dancers are ones that maybe just squeezed into the Top 20 and didn’t get much pre-Vegas attention, but end up being real forces of nature as the competitive component begins. There are always the few that are hyped early, but also a few welcome surprises. With the pool halved from the get-go, there are fewer opportunities for these stealth candidates to come to our attention.
Of course not. He should fight to the finish. I just think it’s total BS that this is the FIRST WEEK he’s been in the bottom three when Robert, who is a phenomenal dancer, has landed there twice. And I know Ashley’s hurt and they made the only decision they really could, but I am sick of seeing José week after week beat out amazing dancers like Robert and Billy. I love his personality and he’s a real sweet, hard-working kid, but his technique has not grown at all and even with rigorous training I don’t think he could surpass any of the other dancers. I just think it’s time for him to go home.
Speaking of him going home, I thought Adam asking him about ‘‘making it this far on the show’’ was a bit of a low blow. Dude knows he’s not the best dancer. It’s not like the judges haven’t been hammering it in every chance they get. I feel for him, I do. I love this season’s contestants and it’s hard to see any of them go.
Amen. I think that some of the choreographers look at these very talented, athletic dancers who are willing to push their limits to make their 3 minute impression on the show and consider them a toy to play with and push the limits of their choreography. They ought to have a trainer or someone who reviews the contents of all the dances the individual dancers are doing during the week are not putting them physically at risk.
The Bollywood number was a case in point for the excessive choreography. I’m mad that the choreographer broke Alex with an over-the-top routine. The full split leap over the partner’s head was a very impressive move — but in rehearsal, it appeared that this was done more than once in the routine. That was an exceptionally physical move, and I feel that that level of move was used too much in the course of the routine.
Yeah, straight weeks where the votes really haven’t mattered.
This week’s ep is half over, but at this point, it seems like the final 2 will be Kent and Lauren, with the other 3 guys duking it out for who gets eliminated first: will the judges give Jose the heave-ho, or will cellar dweller Billy be shown the door?
To be honest, I don’t really care much. Lauren’s a hottie and most of the guys have zero personality, but while some of the numbers are well done, none really soar as frequently as I remember from other years.
With the format change and then all the hospital runs, this is easily the worst season of the show, IMHO.
