Mia is just getting weirder and weirder.
Poor Alex! Poor us.
BTW, I’m certainly glad they told us that dance was a chacha, 'cause I’d never have guessed.
I don’t know if I was watching the same routine the judges were, but I thought Robert’s ‘doll’ piece was terrible. It looked like he dropped his partner on her ass once, and a couple of the lifts were very clunky and awkward. Overall I just thought it was extremely amateurish and not at all enjoyable to watch. Yet they praised it! Reason #4,295 why I don’t judge dance competitions.
When they were praising Jose for his piece- which I did agree with, by the way, I bet Alex was sitting in the audience going “damn him!”
Time for Adechike to go home.
I disagree. I think Robert’s dancing is plenty masculine enough, he’s just quirky. I really don’t understand why he’s not getting votes (ETA: I do agree with you that he dropped his partner on her ass during the doll piece. There were parts that seemed very sloppy. I’m guessing the judges failed to mention that so he doesn’t end up bottom three again. He is still 5x the dancer that Jose or Adechike ever will be.)
Wow, with that dance between Kent and Lauren really brought something out in Kent never seen before. I kinda feel like we were watching him go from a boy to a man (he’s not there yet, but a step closer.) I thought they were going to kiss at the end – and not as part of the routine.
I know everybody thinks Kent is gay, but I’m not convinced he’s gay. I knew both gay boys and straight boys in high school who behaved a lot like him. The goofyness is a mark of just being a young inexperienced boy, not necessarily being gay.
Billy is a gay man.
Robert is most likely a gay man.
Kent is comparatively just a kid. I don’t think we can assume his sexuality just yet.
God, I hope Alex is back next week.
olive, I agree with you about Kent. Billy and Robert ping my gaydar. Kent does not, though I have been mistaken before.
I really missed Alex last night. If it is his achilles tendon, I wonder will they allow him to audition for next season?
Audition, hell, put him straight through to the show.
I assume that if the tests show Alex is out of dancing for months, they’ll simply eliminate him this week? I mean, why boot someone else just to have to eliminate him next week anyway.
I love Lauren and was glad to see her finally pull out the “sexy”.
Congrats to Mia Michaels and Stacey Tookey for getting Best Choreography nods in this year’s Emmy nominations.
Mia’s nod is for the routines “Gravity/Addiction”, danced by Kayla and Kupono, and for “Koop Island Blues” (aka the Butt Dance) by Randi and Evan.
Stacey’s nod is for “Fear”, danced by Kathryn and Legacy.
Adam Shankman also got a nomination for choreographing the opening number to the 82nd Annual Academy Awards (he also got a nod for co-producing the show)
Unfortunately, Kat failed to get a Reality Host nod, getting bumped by (ugh) Tom Bergeron.
I agree–I didn’t know she had it in her!
I think Adechike’s definitely in the bottom 3, with Billy or Robert rounding it out since Alex is a lock. I think they’re really going to wait until all the medical tests are final before they give him the boot, so it may not be tonight, but it may be very soon. Really hope that’s not the case–I don’t think any of the guys can really stand up to him in both ability and presentation.
Okay, I like Kat, but I love Tom Bergeron, whose ad libs can be things of beauty. I’m sure one of the other nominees better deserves the eyeroll here.
ETA: Here’s the list:
Ryan Seacrest (American Idol)
Phil Keoghan (The Amazing Race)
Tom Bergeron (Dancing with the Stars)
Heidi Klum (Project Runway)
Jeff Probst (Survivor)
I’d vote for Ryan or Heidi not deserving the nod Kat should have gotten.
I don’t watch Dw/tS so I only know Tom from Hollywood Squares, so I’ll concede that point. How about Ryan Seacrest?
Last night was the first time I can recall Kat calling out the judges on a point (when they told Ade`chike he put too much of his own personality into the Indian dance, when a few weeks ago they praised Jose~ fr doing exactly that same thing).
She usually keeps things moving smoothly, and seems to be cheering for everyone/not playing favorites. It’s also fun to see what atrocious thing she’ll be wearing next, though this season, her people seem to be making her look much better than they have in prior seasons.
All of the judging feedback seemed predisposed to a Adicheke elimination. Very flawed dances were given fawning praise, while Adicheke was given no slack (the judges’ reactions to Kat’s pointing out of their hypocrisy was hilarious). Even the final African Jazz leopard hunter mess was given supportive critical feedback, only because Jose & Billy are still under the critical-darling-wing of the judges.
There was a kiss at the end, and I don’t think it was part of the routine. When the judges started talking to them it looked like he was asking her if that was ok and she was vehemently nodding yes.
I absolutely loved that dance. I love all Travis Wall routines it seems, but this one really got to me. I’ve watched 5 times now. The routine was gorgeous, and they danced it beautifully, but the emotion that was being emitted was off the charts. And I don’t typically pick up on that.
I agree with everything olivesmarch4th (and therefore corkboard) said. I was definitely confused by some of the judges’ feedback, but it does seem like Adechike is headed home.
I love the way Cat (with a “C”; it’s short for Catherine) covered for the weird vocal effect thing at the top of the show, but it made me wonder if she’s the kind of person who will joke and cover on the air but then bitch someone out off stage. I like to think she isn’t. After Adam, I think I love Cat the most – at least, her host personality.
I can just imagine how the set up for Lauren and Kent’s dance.
Kent: We should, um…only I you want to, we should kiss at the end. ItisjustanideaforgetIsaidanything.
Lauren: I think that’s a good idea.
Kent: R…really? I mean, yeah.
I’m pretty sure I read in an interview that she dresses herself. No cite at the moment though.
I think I saw something like that, too Doctor Who, but I took that to mean they had a few designers send her some outfits to choose from and she dressed herself from those to fit in among the competitors and their costumes. I don’t think she brings in her own clothes for the shows or even shops for what she’ll wear each season.
You are probably right. I still reserve the right to be amused at some of the things she chooses to wear.
