Just went out today and got myself my Christmas presents. 5 CD’s(would’ve been six but the store doesn’t carry INDEPENDENT artists) and 6 DVDs(my first six), probably six of my favourite movies of all time. That’s it for me this season. Oooh, it’s snowing outside. How perfect.
Last week I bought my christmas present early. got the Xda II pocket pc phone. I think it is freakin awesome. Okay, I could have done without the camera but it is handy on occaision.
I have configured it yet for gprs email download but as soon as I get a chance I will. I can definately see that when I do a quick biz trip I won’t have to take my laptop in the future.
I was going to the airport and downloaded emails/synched just before going out the door and read a happy thanksgiving message from my father. Heck, i didn’t even know it was thanksgiving being that I live in China. So, I gave him a holler out.
Oh! I am geting myself a better accordian(hows that for a net-o gift) I also want a MP3 player. ( I love polkas !!!)
Spelling and grammer subject to change with out notice.
This falls in line with my own ‘Christmas tradition’ that I’m trying to sell others on and make the world a better place.
Screw gift exchanges. I know, you got to buy stuff for the chillun, 'cause they ain’t got any money of their own. But why buy stuff for everybody else??? Especially people you hardly know and may not even like??? And why go boke doing it?
It’s insane, I tells ya!
Even the most well meaning of folks will get you something you are probably not gonna like. This is why there is a rush to exchage things every Dec 26th.
Under my plan, everything is simpler. We don’t buy any gifts for other people. Instead, we buy a great gift for ourselves. We get that which we really desire. And on Dec 25th, we all meet with our loved ones and share our joy!
No worrysome shopping. Much smaller credit card bills. No exchanges and returns. No disappointments. NO FRUITCAKES!!!
Everybody’s happy! Except retailers, because we wouldn’t be spending as much…
I’m gonna keep working this till it’s the tradition around the world!
Who’s with me?
[sub]sounds of crickets chirping in the silence[/sub]
One day…
I’ve dropped a few hints that I’d like a compound mitre saw but I don’t expect to get it. I’ll be picking one up after the holidays if that’s the case, because I want to build a mantle/surround for our currently-hideous fireplace.
I cannot contain myself with the excitement of all the fun things I will now be able to slice, dice, and chop with impunity!
Those look awesome. Amazon’s got some great cooking stuff. I got a pan that’s to die for from em.
I’m so excited! Originally, I was just going to get an 8" chef’s knife and maybe a 3 1/2" paring knife, but for forty bucks more at Amazon, I get a block, a steel, and two other knives. I figure, even without the two extra knives, the steel and block are worth it.
Nobody is ever going to mistake me for a professional chef, but I love to cook, and I really appreciate the difference that good quality tools make in any task.
This is what I’m getting myself, finally. I’ve resisted getting a DVD player for a long time but it seems that Blockbuster is forcing my hand on the issue; so few movies are available for rental in VHS anymore. Happily this is a DVD/VHS combo so I can still use the few videotapes I own. I’m getting it next week and am quite looking forward to it.
I splurged a month ago and bought a George Olson painting. It’s a lovely botanical study of prairie switchgrass.
This my gift to myself for Christmas, next birthday, Ground Hog Day, and just about every other holiday for quite a while. But it’s worth it.
Fortunately–and for the first time ever–I actually had all my Christmas shopping done early. I’m really excited about some of the gifts for folks because they seem really well suited to them. Now I can just stay mellow and lazy through the holidays.
I was going to get the newest edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, but my mom told me not to buy it since she’s already bought it for me. Suppose we’ll see about that come Christmas. The last time she said that, I got a pooping moose instead… Spoz had fun with that incident, let me tell you.
So I’m probably going to get myself the newest edition of a book with weird facts and such in it. Plus other books and such, if money allows after bills and other gifts.

Just ordered $500 worth of chrome stuff for the Harley, that translates into almost 3.8 square inches of chrome. Ms Hook says I gotta wait until after Christmas to actually put it on the bike.
Right after the first of the year $755 goes to raise the handle bars, put on braided stainless cables, move the turn signals, and hide the wiring inside the hadlebars.
Getting Ms Hook a diamond ring, I think.
Ohhhhhh, I am getting Pirates of the Caribbean fer meself, har har, ye scurvy dogs!
Wait, did I write that or think that?
eeep.
DVD’s! Pirates of the Caribbean and Two Towers for sure, probably the Indiana Jones box set as well.
My relatives, on the other hand, are getting socks and tins of month-old popcorn…
A book on the Cyernoybol disster
BUY the Indy box set! The transfers to DVD are fabulous. I found that the tapes and broadcast TV airing were very dark and these lightened em up considerably. And the movies are still great.
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeez it always takes so long to find something dad will like that buying me something has to wait till late January.
We have just bought a house, a HUGE step in expensive Japan. We will be 75 years old when the loan ends - eek! But it is big by Japanese standards, the plot of land is 13m deep by 27m long, and the house has 10 rooms in total. The garden part has a veg plot, an established Japanese garden with a dozen small trees, and parking for three large or four small cars. We put ourselves into debt for 34 years in order to have the space, which we both crave.
That isn’t the Christmas present though! We bought a bed! I am 38 years old and have never bought a bed. (Japanese apartment living demands futons that can be put away during the day.) Actually we bought two single ones (can’t buy king sized beds here unless they cost what a king could pay…) good mattresses, new pillows and mattress pad, and LLBean flannel sheets and comforter cover and a new kingsized goose down comforter also from the USA. Stupidly, stupidly expensive but I will ooze satisfaction every time I get into it from this Christmas until about 35 Christmases from now. OOOOOO!
We’re getting a bed, too. And I just ordered the new Pern book and the MST3K Volume 4 DVD set.
Man, I sure am nice to us!
