some asshat tried to stab the GOP candidate for CA-15

For that analogy to be true, cops would have to be shooting unarmed GOP candidates.

There were good people on both sides of the knife.

Don’t most GOP candidates carry guns now, in accord with the NRA, if not abject obedience? For that all important “whip out” moment? How best to judge the caliber a candidate?

Y’know, if the weapon in question was a Swiss Army Knife, we’d have evidence of foreign terrorism.

French Army knife, tiny little white flag next to the tweezers.

I think you should re-read the article. I do not believe it says anything of the kind.

But I could be wrong; can you quote the article?

I’m surprised this was stopped without a good guy with a knife.

Serious response. The details are murky at this point, but on the assumption that he instigated the attack, then this was wrong and he should pay the price. Violence is a poor substitute for civil discourse, and while there may be times through history where violence was necessary, this wasn’t one of them.

Most commonly for switchblades, the blade doesn’t open far enough to latch in place. This can happen with both out-the-front and side opening designs. A weak spring, improper lubrication, pocket debris, or a combination of these things can be the cause.

Less commonly, lever lock designs like this Hubertus are sensitive to having the release lever properly depressed. If the lever isn’t pressed far enough, the locking pin drags across the base of the blade during opening. Typically, the blade stops only partially open.

Another possibility is a broken mainspring. One typically finds out the spring is broken when one presses the release and nothing happens.

Cheap automatic knives are generally more prone to problems than better quality makes, but even good ones are finicky. I have a Hubertus Camper (imagine a Swiss Army switchblade). It is a solidly made, well-crafted knife. Even so, it requires a drop of lube from time to time, doesn’t like pocket lint, and you better press that lever firmly if you want it to open properly.

My congressional district.

See, this is what happens when gun control advocates get violent.

I’m not RA, but I presume this is the part he was talking about:

So, by the candidate’s own account, Fazeli started with verbal abuse, then threw a coffee mug (which I believe constitutes assault and would certainly have been cause to arrest him). Peters then grabbed him and wrestled him to the ground. That’s where the direct quote ends, but according to the next line, he said that that was the point at which Fazeli pulled the knife.

Farzad Fazeli?

Right now, somewhere in America, someone is posting to a message board how this shows that the alliance of MS-13, Antifas and ISIS is now operational. Someone who isn’t kidding.

Read the comments on the article. (Strong stomach recommended.)

So we’re all agreed that stabbing people is bad? Finally, a Great Debate that results in a consensus.

Couldn’t get past ten. Cry, the beloved country.

The victim lived. That’s a sign of a defective stabbing.

As I said, I live in this congressional district. It is a real melting pot. For example it is about 30% Asian. Most of my neighbors are Chinese, Indian, or Filipino.

My wife is a teacher in a neighborhood public elementary school. ALL of her students are Indian or Chinese.

Around here a name like Farzad Fazeli would be considered completely normal.

I thought that was the whole point of the OP.

Can you summarize for the Facebook disinclined?
