Some emoticons not showing

Is there any particular reason why some of the emoticons are not appearing on my screen?

  • wally
  • smack
  • dubious
  • happy orthodox Jewish man

These four have placeholders, but have never appeared since the switch to the new software.

I realize it’s not a big deal, but I’m just wondering if it’ll be fixed any time soon.

I’ve been wondering the same thing myself. Here is another thread where the issue is addressed, but if there is anything new, I haven’t noticed. Smileys missing

I have read that those smileys do not come with VB and have to be put in by staff.

I think xash has covered this, IIRC. It’s on the to-do list, but sorting out stuff from going to a subscription board take priority at the moment.

One more example of the glaring incompetence with which this board is run.

And now people are paying for it. lol.

Because, of course, we all know that a competent staff would give pretty little pictures a higher priority than making sure that people’s credit cards don’t get double-charged.

Let me see if they work with this new version of Opera I just installed:

  :dubious:  :smack: :stuck_out_tongue: :wally  ;j   :o  :frowning:

Oh yeah, FINALLY!!!

Darn, I was coming here to ask if you guys would add smilies made by dopers, but now I notice that the ones we have don’t even work

Well, if you guys ever do get around to it, I made a soapbox smiley (borrowed the head) that would be great for GD

soapbox

Xash answers your question in this thread.

The referenced thread also describes some useful and neat new vB tags and what various text colors mean.

alterego, three points: First, various people here (including some members of the Staff) have expressed strong negative emotions towards animated smilies. Second, I’m not sure what you mean by “borrowed the head”, but it sounds like it would run afoul of the Board’s strict stance on copyright: New smilies are required to be all-original. Third, along the same lines, there are probably issues with using a particular recognizable brand for your soapbox. But if you redesign, you should be able to submit it the next time the Staff puts out the call for new smilies.
