Some motherfucker smashed my car window

Er. Your car is out of warranty. Dealerships have a reputation for expensive repairs, not good service. Perhaps you should look for a good local mechanic.

You live in Chicago. Go to a public library and flip through Consumer’s Checkbook, which does surveys of local businesses. You could even subscribe if you wanted to support their fine work.

I live in the fantasy world painted by my father of “the car dealer is the place to go.”
I don’t know much about cars and repairs, and the impotence that that creates is tough. I don’t know how to figure out who to trust with my car.

Thanks for the info

David

So far, my best mechanic is from a friend’s recommendation. It is a crapshoot, though (far too much of a crapshoot for the kind of money mechanic work costs).

Interesting…yes, the last time I had a windshield smashed, I brought the car to a dealer-they simply sent the car to a glass shop, then billed an extra amount to my insurace company.
Sort of a commission, I guess.
