I don’t see what difference colour is going to make. The ‘stuff’ still looks like ‘stuff’ in colour.
You’re right. Looking at it in color doesn’t help much.
But one of the things about the paper’s photo is the lower contrast; the bottle at the top is harder to make out. And in the color one you can barely make out a bubbly texture and his top teeth - in B&W it all looks much worse.
