Something hit Jupiter?

A dark spot has appeared on Jupiter. Astronomers will be observing the planet to see if it’s from an impact or it’s a storm. http://www.irishastronomy.org/cms/forum?func=view&catid=2&id=79644&start=15

Discover/Bad Astronomy link.

It’s just those monoliths multiplying again. Nothing to worry about.

Here’s a link from the Discovery page. It’s also on the page linked by **rowrrbazzle. There are images, but it’s taking its sweet time loading.

I think it’s funny that an ad on that page shows a traveling black spot caused by the shadow of a transiting moon. I’m assuming that cause has been checked and discounted.

Darn, it seems Hubble is still being calibrated, any chance they would point to Jupiter and damn the calibration and get some images?

If that dark spot gets any bigger Arthur C. Clarke’s got some esplaining to do.

Like why he was six months off…

Better Jupiter than Uranus.

Indeed!

Posting just to prove that, when the world comes to an end, I was aware of its doom early on.

Wow, I didn’t know planets got blackheads. Probably just in time for school picture day, too.

I know what it is, but I’m not telling.

It’s something to do with this, isn’t it?

I hate it when they drive off without leaving a note or insurance information.

Oh don’t worry, that was just the test run of my von Neumann machines, wanted to make sure the “Off” button worked, would have been embarrassingly fatal if it didn’t and I tried it on Earth and such, you know how it is.

You’ll be hearing my list of demands via all forms of earthly communication sometime within the week.

Walks off laughing maniacally

It’s always a good thing when something hits Jupiter. It means one less potential terrestrial impact scenario. Better Jupiter than us, I say.

I swear I’m not a misanthropic sociopath, but I have always been fascinated by impact events. I think it started when, as a young kid, I first read about the Tunguska explosion.

Don’t get me wrong, I am LOVING life, but post-apocalyptic fiction has created a soft spot in my heart for a near ELE during my lifetime. Oh well.

I can relate, kind of. I don’t want it to happen, but it is kind of interesting to think about. That’s why there are all those movies and books about it.

Could we be next?
