I’m mostly successfully battling acne - blemishes are my biggest problem also.
The biggest thing is splash your face with nipple hardening cold water - then pick up a blemish removal product, any will do, but make sure it says, (and it HAS to say it!): noncomedogenic
(wont clog pores)
Oil of Olay makes a lot of noncomedogenic products.
I don’t know, either, BrianS, and I have the same problem. Visine does seem to help somewhat. You could always carry a bottle with you and reapply throughout the day if you wish. (When I’ve got a particularly nasty blemish, I usually put Visine on it two or three times throughout the day. My skin is so light and so sensitive that pimples on me stand out like stop-lights!)
You know how I compensate? It sounds stupid, but I’ve noticed that certain coloured clothing tends to make a blemish stand out more. Generally when I have a red spot on my face, I stay away from red, green, and dark colours, and tend to wear yellow or other similar light colours. And although this part doesn’t apply to you, I also wear minimal makeup as I don’t want my face to look too “busy”. heh
I hope someone has an idea that specifically targets the redness/irritation of the skin without resorting to makeup or products that fight pimples (I can’t use 'em.)
Why not? If done correctly, no one will be the wiser. You don’t need to cover your entire face with it, just dab it directly on the offending spots, and blend it in well.
I have found that application of an ice cube to the affected area reduces the swelling and redness for a while. Aloe vera is also good at soothing irritated skin.
My sister swears by toothpaste, btw – ordinary white paste type Colgate, not gel or ‘sparkling’ or whitening or mint flavored. At night put a tiny dab on the sore and let it dry and go to bed. She says the irritation is much reduced in the a.m. when she washes it off.
Generally, the tissue is irritated, causing redness. Cool water and some other products that are kind to inflamed and irritated tissue can help. Things like witch hazel -and other treatments more commonly used on hemmoroids- can help just a little.
The condition leading to the irritation should be corrected for best long term results, but this is often difficult.
Don’t fuss/fiddle with the area
Be gentle
Choose friendly products
Maintain a regular maintenace program
Diet can help (not a miracle cure) minimize the problem and allow the body to recover faster.
I agree. If you can get a gal pal to find a good cover-up stick that matches your exact skin tone, one with staying power, you’ll only need to put a tiny bit over the spot, and blending shouldn’t be a huge problem. It’ll be our little secret.
