Somewhat outstanding X-mas gifts

Hi there,

just wondering … any (somewhat remarkable) X-mas gifts in your family?

  • I got myself a mechanic espresso-maker (I’ve been long lusting after that) → Cafelat Robot
  • and our teenage kids got the wifey a nice foto-album with smart/funny texts inbeteen lots and lots of fotos … for the “first 20 or so years”

anything interesting under your tree?

Two years ago I bought myself a lovely new winter coat.

The first time I wore it I had an unfortunate accident.

I was Christmasing at my cousin’s house and walked backwards into a candle setting on a buffet. Coat caught fire, flames leaping high into the sky … coat and one layer underneath ruined but I was fine.

Two years later and I still did not experience the motivation to replace the coat.

I’ve been wearing one I found at a thrift store.

My cousin’s daughter must have had enough of my sartorial mediocrity. She purchased a lovely Columbia, knee length winter coat and sent it to me as a Christmas present.

I found this to be an endearing and outstanding gesture even though I am still a bit cautious/superstitious to put it on lol!

Just stay away from open flames, stove burners, and bears.

I got my husband, who is a burgeoning amateur photographer, a tripod for his cell phone. Not some cheap knock-off tripod but a trusted brand from an honest-to-goodness photography store.

He loves it.

I think it’s pretty cool. Now he can be included in the photos and videos he takes.

He’s been the family archivist for a while now. He makes photo books with our son every year and distributes them as Christmas gifts. They are beloved, and this will seriously up his game.

For me the best Christmas gift was one we selected for ourselves. Our new Sony Bravia 9 television will be arriving Monday.

My husband got me the new B Dylan Hollis book, Baking Across America. It goes with the other one, Baking Yesteryear, that I got for Christmas last year. We both enjoy watching Hollis’ videos and now we can bake along with him.

Hopefully I will get over this superstitious nonsense.

I will definitely stay away from the stove and candles.
Bears are a rarity where I live. But they do appear occasionally.

I think I will try it out on my next “date” with a classmate I ran into at my 50th class reunion.

On second thought, maybe not.
