Song that played on tonight's Simpsons (02/08)

The one during Mozart, after Bart had just failed and he was under a streetlamp. My closed captions said “mournful aria” but it didn’t capatilize it so I don’t think thats the right name for it. Can someone help me out?

I think you are referring to “Lacrimosa” from “Requiem in D minor” by Mozart.

Does anyone know what the point of this Simpsons episode was? It was one of the most humorless I’ve seen…

I thought it was one of the better ones of the season. I’ve always liked the comedic shorts kind of episodes, like this one, the tall tales one, the Shakespeare one, etc. As a classical music fan, the Mozart sketch was bordering on offensive (using “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” as an operetta about farting?) but I could still laugh at it all.

I thought it was pretty funny, but as a librarian I thought the way they portrayed the public library as being full of bums and useless books like the Ron Santo biography.

I didn’t find that joke particularly funny, but I can’t imagine there are a lot of people that touchy watching the show. Nelson’s Beethoven laugh amused me greatly. Last week’s ep (which I finally saw Friday) was tough to follow, and I thought this one was fine. I bet a lot of people around Chi-town didn’t like the Santo jokes, but screw 'em.

For some reason, I loved the ending. It made a lot more sense than the ending to one of the earlier non-Halloween short episodes, Tales From the Public Domain. I don’t want to put these silly spoilers in a black box, so I’ll just put them down a bit. They’re not even spoilers, I don’t think.

Tales ended with Homer pointing out Hamlet was the greatest story ever written, and it inspired an even greater movie called Ghostbusters! Then the whole family dances to the Ghostbusters theme. Doesn’t really make sense. The ending to last night’s makes sense in a Homeric fashion. Lisa points out the story of Mozart as it was told was just stolen from the movie Amadeus, which was historically inaccurate. Homer argues that the guy who played Mozart in that movie was also in Animal House, which had some good music! He then proceeds to sing a very funny theme song to Animal House that wasn’t even in the movie (“Nobody ever went to class/then you saw Donald Sutherland’s ass!”) an Animal House-style “end like American Graffiti/where you found out what happened to everybody.” (Henry VIII still holds the world’s record for chicken-leg eating. Sacagawea became rich by posing for butter boxes. Mozart’s gravesite is now a gas station. That night, Homer saw Animal House again and had a toga party.)

In a Homer way, this makes sense. Mozart wrote good music. Animal House had even better music! And the guy who played Mozart in Amadeus was in Animal House! He then tops it off with a hilarious song that wasn’t even in the movie in the first place. In my opinion, this is a good (and funny) example of how Homer’s brain works and a good ending.

I thought the Henry the 8th stuff was clearly the best of the night- but Lenny and Carl are always good for a laugh.

Err, the song was in the closing credits of Animal House, which makes it even funnier, I think.

“Let me tell you 'bout some friends I know
They’re kinda crazy but you’ll dig the show
They can party 'till the break of dawn
at Delta Chi you can’t go wrong”

Animal House Lyrics

Indian Chief Homer: For years we have awaited the arrival of the white man (and Carl).

Ah. I had never seen the film, so I didn’t know that. Thanks.

Seeing as this isn’t the first time Homer’s made up his own lyrics to an actual song, that does make it funnier. (“I take a whisky drink, I take a vodka drink, and when I have to pee, I use the kitchen sink. I sing the songs that remind me I’m a urinatin’ guy…”)

I thought last night’s ep was hilarious! Henry VIII was the the best. “I’m Hen-e-ry the Eighth, I am. I’ve been eating since 6 am.” And starting the C of E. “By the power vested in me … by you just now …” :stuck_out_tongue:

I liked the Sacagawea one the best. “Ok, those berries are poison, that’s poison oak, and that belt is a snake.” I also like when Marge held up the Sackie and when nobody knew what it was she explained you could trade it at the bank for a REAL dollar! HA!

And as a person who is not a librarian, I can spot incomplete sentences as soon as they.

… was right on target.

Indeed! I LOVED IT! One of my favorite Simpson episodes ever! Henry VIII was great, but I liked Lenny & Carl as well. And Lisa getting 'HAW HAW HAW HAW’ed had me on the floor.

(also poison)."

Indeed – I still get quizzical looks when I ask cashiers if they’ve got any “dollar coins”. (Occasionally, they’ll scoop out 4 quarters when I ask for a “dollar coin”, because they think I want a dollar in coins. Grrrr.)

I think that the joke there was supposed to be that rather than remembering “Shout!” or “Louie, Louie” or any of the other classic songs, Homer sang that awful, stupid, forgettable “Animal House” theme song which played over the end credits (though he did make up funnier lyrics for it).

Worst episode ever.

Oh, excuse me. Forgot that doesn’t work on the Net anymore.

It was a completely awful episode. This season so far had been the best in several years. Now a retrograde episode. Stunk and then some.

They just missed good historical jokes and made errors that made no sense. Lewis and Clark rowed up the Mississippi? That’s not a fact, or a joke or anything. Why is it there? The whole episode was like that.

“Divorced, beheaded, she died. Divorced, beheaded, he died.” Every school kid knows that. They couldn’t have thought of anything funny using that???

The funniest joke was the Eugene Oregon reference, and how many of you got that?
