I can’t believe no one’s said Macarena yet. That song drove me crazy.
Ahem, crazier.

That was kind of a novelty song. It didn’t seem worth mentioning, sort of like “Wabash Cannonball,” or “Beer Run.” Or the theme to Friends. I can stand the last one if I’m actually watching a Friends rerun, but there was a summer when it was played over and over on the radio, and it didn’t even need to be played once.
“Royals”. 'Nuff said.
How about “Claire” by Gilbert O’Sullivan? That song makes me want to step on small, cute things.
Slithy Tove, I will try the cover version you suggest - I had Helen Reddy in mind - but the lyrics to that song are so bad, I can’t imagine any version that redeems it. I’m posting before I listen, in case hearing it proves fatal.
Speaking of covers, **Freudian Slit **- how about the Devo cover version of Satisfaction? I smile whenever I hear it - it’s like someone saying, “Psst, Mick … this is what a real musician does.”
Okay, I just clicked on that link … bwah hah hah hah hah … omigod, the tears are springing unbidden from my eyes … help me …
In other words, thank you for posting that link, and I’m so glad I was brave enough to listen
I think I prefer Darlene’s version of"Stayin’ Alive."
I worked in a campus restaurant in the mid-60s. I cannot count how many times I heard Streisand’s *People. *I hated it the first time, and well into the thousands, I want to put an ice pick through my ear drums. I’d almost rather hear the *Christmas Shoes *song.
Mony Mony by Billy Idol
Horse with No Name has to be #1, but with Margaritaville a close second. Claire is third, but only because I haven’t heard it in a few years.
Another candidate is Cher’s Do You Believe.
Our classic rock station seems obligated to play “Sultans of Swing” five or six times every day. I can’t turn it off fast enough.
I’ve Never Been to Me, for the younger set
Don’t it make my brown eyes blue?
Anything by Foreigner or Boston or Journey
Anything Disco - hey, after all that crap of the 60’s, we needed some fun stuff - but that crap?
Thank Bruce Springsteen for returning to real rock.
ANY sappy song about some young lover/friend/whatever dying young, a la Honey, Ode To Billy Joe, Last Kiss, and the rest of that nauseating dreck. Instant Mute button.
Sefton, the Macarena song can start to get on one’s nerves after a while, but the Animaniacs’ version is strangely addictive.
The theme song to the Big Bang Theory.
Chantilly Lace
Also Jackie Evancho’s interpretation(s)
She has an uncanny ability to match her singing perfectly to the occasion and her muted rendition for the National Memorial Day Concert is exceptional.
Ozzy’s Crazy Train.
Oh my god, does every single sports franchise have the rights to this song? Why do I have to hear it at every sporting event I see?
NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA… please make it stop.
It’s like the kid in the black Ozzy concert t-shirt that dropped out of high school in 84’ and never moved out of his home town suddenly controls the arena’s sound board.
Laurie Anderson’s entire body of work.
The theme song to “Orange is the New Black”.
WOW…that’s pretty fierce…(don’t like ‘People’ either) unless I change the words to people, people, who Bleed people, are the fu$&@iest people in the world
Anything post Thriller from Michael Jackson
Jesus Take the Wheel - holy shit what glurge! Even if I was a believer, this would offend me.
