Caught it after The Shield. I liked it. It could surely turn out to be a great show. A good cast too.
It’s pretty clear that this is a possibility, and the Perlman character (Clay) seems to think that it is a possibility, but somewhat doubts it: he clearly loves the kid, but is very concerned that someone will off him (Clay) so that Jax can step up. The mom character seems to be playing both sides of this issue, so perhaps she isn’t sure if the father is the long dead guy, Clay or someone else. She probably thinks it is best for Jax if she keeps it ambiguous. Her attempt to kill the mother of her grandson (was it successful?) was pretty disgusting and evil. I don’t frankly know how they can top it.
Well, I liked tonight’s episode better.
One of the things that bothered me about the pilot is that they were afraid to show the characters smoking pot. (that’s why they kept passing around those cigarettes like they were joints)
It’s good to see that the Execs grew some balls and decided to show it “all” so to speak. It leaves me with the feeling that this show might be cutting edge which I like.
Also that guy who did the two dead girls in the fire is my new favorite guy to hate. He’ll make a nice villain.
I watched it last night. Kinda liked it. I’ll give it a few more chances.
Last night’s episode was hugely better than the pilot (which I liked anyway). Now we get into rounding out some of these people.
I did think that the gas station scene was a bit much though, unless that comes back to bite them in the ass later, and I like the hard ass cop who wants to be sherriff. That will be a good antagonist role to include in the overall scheme.
Since I’m not that familiar with FX and their series, how much swearing will they really let them get away with?
Just caught the two episodes on demand. I intend to keep watching, I think it has a lot of potential. I’m really liking Katy Segal in that role.
I like the show, and i especially like Katey Sagal’s hardass character.
I agree with Cluricaun that the gas station scene was a bit OTT, and i also thought the confrontation between Katey Sagal and the young doctor at the elevator was a bit too Dynasty.
It’s amazing to see how the guy who plays Jackson has changed. He’s so different from the young guy who starred in the English version of Queer as Folk.
I managed to forget last night’s episode was on, but the good news is that Hulu is carrying the episodes only 8 days after the original air dates, so the first two episodes are already up and lasts night will be there a week from today.
Watched last night and I think its getting better. They are certainly going for some visceral topics.
Spoilers
I’m not sure how I feel about the junkie coming around so quickly. It was really hard to watch her in the first episode and it bothered me but her pretty much realizing what a fuck up she was so early on seemed like that story line won’t have far to go. Unless she falls off the wagon again of course.
Quite a bit. “Shit” is very common on Rescue Me and Always Sunny, but I don’t think I’ve heard “fuck.” Though oddly enough, the gang on Always Sunny once threw a bag of flaming “poop.”
I’ve gotta say (having now seen episode 3) that they finally hit their stride. Episodes 1 and 2 were sort of shaky, but this one was pretty near perfect. They’ve really done a good job at making Perlman and Sagal be pretty scary individuals on all levels. So knowing that Jax is going to eventually be fighting them both is looking to be really promising. He’s definitely holding his own as an actor so I don’t think I’ll be let down.
But of course, just tossing the fighting between Ma and the nurse/doctor girl was fairly, good enough to make it a top episode. That one girl may be hot, but she’s just not good enough an actor to make those scenes worth it.
In contrast to some other folks here, i’m getting less impressed (at least with some aspects of the show) as it goes on.
The Emma Goldman quote painted in red under the Nevada bridge was just stupid (not the quote; its presence in the show). While i don’t have any trouble believing that a freedom-loving biker might read anarchist authors like Goldman and Proudhon, the whole tortured philosophical battle that Jax is having seems pretty contrived, at least in the amount of intellectualism they give to it.
The girl jumping on Jax’s bike after he knocks out her boyfriend was also a bit lame.
I’m still enjoying it, in a “fun way to spend an hour” sort of way, but i don’t think it’s as good as FX’s other original series, especially the excellent Damages.
This week’s was even worse, i think.
The Chinese restaurant owner was just offensive in its ridiculous stereotyping, and the whole episode was sort of lame. I’m just about ready to drop it from the rotation. I might give it one more week, but if it doesn’t improve, it’s out.
My wife said she thinks that the writers are simply immature, and i think she might be right. It’s trying to be a California Sopranos, and it’s just not working.
