I noticed that too. I thought “ooh, nice car. Hey- that’s a Maserati! Hey- that’s Johnny Sac’s Maserati!”
OK, that was a good one too.

I can’t say with 100% certainty, but I’m almost positive that was Sack’s Maserati.
It’s definitely Johnny Sac’s Maserati. Last episode, somebody (can’t remember who) was talking to Johnny Sac in prison, and they were talking about money or something. The guy told Johnny that Christopher was interested in buying his Maserati. Though we never saw the exchange take place, I think it can be safely assumed that the transaction took place.
Another Great Line:
“Hey Fabio I’m available” or something along those lines.
Props to Rosalie Aprile for being straight with Carm about why AJ is a screw-up. Maybe her timing was off, what with Carm already stressed about Tony, but it had to be said.
Johnny’s got to be pissed that he’s reduced to selling off things to rivals in order to keep afloat. That’ll come back to bite Chris in the ass.
The power struggle should be interesting. I lean towards Silvio & Chris holding the Family for Tony with Vito & Paulie causing problems and one or both ending up dead. Anyone think Janice will push Bobby to take a bigger role. He was in the meeting of the Capos.
In the End if Tony dies I see Silvio supporting Chris as the Head of the Family and possibly getting Paulie back under control. I think Silvio likes effectively being the consigliere of the Soprano family. He doesn’t seem to have the ambition to put the target on his back.
The wildcard might be Phil, who would he support? Vito or maybe Paulie? We know it won’t be Chris.
I think Sack will end up resenting Chris buying the Maserati. I’m glad “you guys” could confirm it.

After they showed us how dire Tony’s situation was, here was my immediate thought process:
Deadwood made me nervous when Al was incapacitated at the beginning of season 2. Those episodes when he was down for the count were easily the weakest of the series. But when Al got over the hump and started to get better, what followed were some of the finest episodes of any show ever put on television.
So, naturally, I’m going to give these “incapacitated” episodes a free pass, but oh man are my expectations ever high for the subsequent episodes.
Yeah the Van Helsing line was pretty random but uber funny.
After all that he’s learned about mob life, I would think that Chris is too smart to try and buy Sacs’ car. Just the fact that he was asking about buying it seems a bit unrealistic. It can only come back to bite him in the ass. I wonder if Tony knows any of this.
Do you think Tony keeps a bunch of dimwits as his capos for self-preservation purposes? They’re not smart enough to unseat him, and dumb enough to take his risks and do all of his dirty work. If I was the boss, the only one I’d want around is Silvio. He’s loyal, smart and in control of his emotions (except on a few occasions like during Chris’s intervention).
JJ, the unstated assumption in your post is that Tony is smart. None of these guys were the smartest kids in the class. They’re best avoiding the Feds; even at that, they’re pretty dense. They protect Tony, but just like Johnny Sack, it’s only a matter of time. The only way these guys die of old age is in a prison (or under house arrest with an ankle bracelet, like Uncle Junior).
I don’t see Chris as head of the family. In the last season recap at the start of last week’s episode, I’m pretty sure there was a clip of a sit-down with Tony, Chris, Johnny Sac, and a few of Sac’s guys. In the meeting, Chris jumped in with “well, why don’t you do this and that”, while Tony glowered at him and did a slow burn. After the meeting, we saw Tony pounding the steering wheel while berating Chris for being so stupid & opening his mouth after he had been told to let Tony do the talking. I think the point of including the clip in the recap was to let us know that after all this time, despite Tony trying to groom him for leadership, Chris is still too stupid to know when to keep his f’in mouth shut. If he gets promoted, it’ll drive Paulie batshit to the point where he won’t be able to work for Chris, and I doubt Chris will make it through the episode alive.
On the other hand, the only way Chris could last as head of the family is if Tony comes out of the shooting alive but incapacitated, Chris is installed as a figurehead, and Tony is the wizard behind the curtain. That way leadership stays under Tony’s control, but he doesn’t have the target on his back.
That was Ginny and her brother (the one that sells glasses). The FBI or IRS wanted to inventory the house and he suggested selling the car and since Christopher offered Ginny cash for it…
I was thinking along similar lines, except that I was operating on the assumption that AJ being AJ, he’ll fuck it up and either somehow take himself out by mistake or someone else will whack him while he’s trying to whack Unca Junie.
I assume you mean the other way? Tony as figurehead and Chris as the wizard behind the curtain? I guees that could work. Tony would be incapacitated, but still the titular ‘acting’ head of the family, while Chris runs the day to day… kind of like what happened with Uncle Junior and Tony.
Questions for those in the know about guns and injuries: In the changing bandages scenes, it looks like a huge, gaping hole in Tony’s stomach. Is that really what the damage from the kind of weapon Uncle Junior used would look like? And would it really still look like that after the doctors had done their best?
If so, YIKES!
Also, has the name of the hospital he’s supposedly in been named?
It was an open wound, it was supposed to look like that. I don’t really understand how they work, but, as you know, one of our doctor/nurses will be along shortly to explain it.
Actually, I meant it as I said it, but perhaps I didn’t explain it very well. With Tony/Uncle Joon, Tony let him remain “head” in name, and threw him a bone every now and then by bouncing things off him. But Tony was on the street every day, doing the real work of the family boss. I think the Tony/Chris relationship would be reversed- Chris would be on the street and would be named as the boss, but would be unable to make any real decisions without talking to Tony, who would make all decisons that would appear to come from Chris.
Chris just doesn’t have the brains to handle things on his own, even though in his own words he feels he’s the “heir apparent”.
My prediction:
Vitto gets whacked.
Silvio and Pauly split the family while vieing for control. One side gets AJ to whack June.
Tony survives and is physically disabled. When he realizes that they are fighting over his bones while he was struggling to survive he wipes out half of his own family. AJ will be in the half he eliminates.
My daughter (a real Sopranos fan) had an idea that I couldn’t quite support, but it does have some aspects that might work. She sees Furio coming back and taking the reins. Didn’t somebody already say that the spoiler sites have him coming back? I see major troubles for him if he tries a power play, but at least he has the stones to try it.
