Sopranos 4-15-07 'The Sacred and the Propane'

That was a much better episode. I loved the little off hand line from the party.

Carmela is causing unneeded trouble between Tony & Christopher.
Nice guest appearances by Sydney Pollack & Danny Baldwin.

Johnny Sack is no more opening the door for a big fight for the head of the family.
Phil looks like he is prepared to fight for it after all.

All said and done, Little Carmine had the line of the night with ‘The Sacred and the Propane’

Yes and no. I think she was picking up on an undercurrent of hostility there. I thought it was pretty perceptive of her. I wonder if this is foreshadowing some open conflict between Tony and Christopher coming up.

I thought Phil going off on his last name change, “And now we’re named after a ballet outfit!” was pretty funny.

Apparently Meadow and Finn broke up. I guess they had nowhere to go with the Finn storyline once Vito was out of the picture.

I thought toward the end, they showed Finn being kind of bored with Meadow and looking for a safe way to break it off with her. Like getting her to do it.

Who got killed in the restaurant? Was that someone we’ve seen before?

Yeah, but not very often. It was Gerry (the Hairdo) Torciano, a high-up New York lieutenant. I’m not sure who did the killing, though. That was great seeing the blood silently spray onto Sil’s face.

Johnny! OMG, I so did not see that coming.

Anyone else notice the backhanded slam against Verizon.

I didn’t either, and I’ll miss him. Whenever he was in a scene, even with Gandolfini the Great, I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

It won’t take much more to put Tony and Christopher at each other’s throats. I wonder if Phil knows things aren’t hunky-dory there.

I don’t believe for a second that Christopher intends to stay clean. It’s bullshit when he says that he doesn’t want to hang around at the Bada Bing because those guys don’t care about his sobriety. He can convince himself of anything. Chuckled at his creative process comment, “What if instead of scissors on his hands, he has a cleaver!” Self-serving, hypocritical son of a bitch.

It looks like Blanca has gotten to know A.J. a bit better.

Anyone know whose body gets dug up next week?

Tried to edit but I was too slow.

What is up with Carm ragging on Christopher? Is she defending Tony or is she trying to punish Christopher (for Ade leaving, maybe) by putting this wedge between Tony and him? Why would a mob wife want to stir up trouble between a couple of dangerous guys?

I thought it was Doc, one of Phil’s guys, part of the “Family of Early Man” as Tony called it. Tony was bitching to Little Carmine that Sil could have gotten hurt and LC said something like, “Yeah, that wasn’t very careful of Doc.” I agree that the blood spray was artistically done, maybe in contrast to Christopher’s movie?

AuntiePam, I think Carm was pissed that the Tony character in the movie was depicted as cheating with hot young babes. If he were cheating with Ade, that would be adding injury to insult.

Ya know…last time she got into this, her spec house was at a stand still. Now it’s done (and has offers) and she’s starting in on it again. I think it’s time for a new hobby.

Another thing, was was the deal with the Dr. Orderly. For some reason every time I saw him, I thought “god character,” something about the way they shot (as in with the camera) him. It sure seems like they where setting something up. The people I was watching it with suggested that the ‘real’ doctors told him he had less time then he did to get him to start talking, but I guess that wasn’t the case.

Sydney Pollack was great as the doctor/orderly. I wonder if there’s going to a lot of celebs in the next few shows?

That was great. I miss the humorous bits that they used to have during the first few seasons.

He was great, but the character was totally wrong about Johnny’s prognosis and gave him false hope. Told him he’d have a year, and he was dead by the end of the ep. Like Joey P, I wonder what the purpose of all that was for the show.

I have seen that happen though. My grandfather was given 6 months and ended up living about three more weeks.

There didn’t seem to be any point to it really. Maybe he’s friends with David Chase and they wanted to make his part a little bigger. When I read he was going to be on the show I thought it was going to be more than one episode.

So, who do you think will die next? I’m thinking Paulie or Christopher.

Previews are always misleading. Doubt anything too exciting will happen next episode.

I hope it’s Paulie. I know that most of the main characters on this show are criminals and murderers and thugs, but Paulie is a whole brand of prick unto himself. He’s a prick in so many little ways as well as big ways. There were a couple of examples tonight, like his yammering on his cell phone during the movie and his comment when he heard that Johnny Sack was dead (“I beat cancer, Johnny didn’t”). He never misses a single opportunity be an asshole. He’s like a genius at it. You’d think he’d forget to be a prick once in a while but he never does.

That was a very interesting look from Chrissie at the end. I don’t think he’s ever gotten over what happened to Adriana.

Just wanted to say that while Little Carmine’s quote is perfect to remember this episode by, the actual title is “Stage 5”, as like in cancer there isn’t any such thing.

Blanca is soooo knocked up. It’ll be interesting to see if AJ steps up to the plate and marries her–Chris did and it seems to be working for him. AJ likes little Hector and all. However, Blanca had one kid already and didn’t marry the dad, apparently thinking him unworthy, and she may think AJ is too young.

What reason do we have to believe Paulie will die?

He’s never seemed like the kind of guy who would rat out. Unlike Pussy, he doesn’t have a family and kids to worry about, and he’s fairly old anyway - it’s not like he’s got a whole life ahead of him. Also, it may be anecdotal, but I read that Tony Sirico has a stipulation in his contract that the character of Paulie will not be a rat.

Paulie is the type who would be loyal to the end. He’s like Tony’s pet bulldog.

We have no particular reason to believe he will die other than that the series is coming to an end so any dramatic death is possible. I wasn’t predicting that Paulie would die, I’m just hoping he does, or at least I hope he gets some kind of comeuppance.

I don’t think he would turn rat, but he might get whacked for other reasons. Maybe the Russian will come back. That would be awesome.

So no one was executed during the baptism? That’s a shame.
