Tony’s last scene with AJ was one of those moments that really reminds you why he’s a successful Don. He was very stern, and he was more under control than I thought- when he came home, I said “AJ’s getting slugged.”
Two favorite scenes for me tonight: Melfi’s remarks to Tony, which I thought were very pointed (and he pointedly ignored them), and that short scene where Vito’s kids read the paper. That was very sad.
I think that Phil has now surpassed Paulie as the most despicable character on the show. Every time i thought he couldn’t get more slimy, he got more slimy. Brutalizing and murdering Vito…reprehensible, but par for the course for mob guys. Having the balls to fake sympathy for Vito’s wife (Phil’s own cousin whose “honor” Phil was supposed to be defending), having the balls to tell her it was better for their kids to have their father beaten to death, having the even bigger balls d empathetic black hole to tell a grieving wife not to “dwell on” her husband’s murder…all psychopathic and disgusting…but calling a newspaper just to out Vito publicly (and not giving a shit about Vito’s kids having to read it), was the most purely gratutitous, sadistic and evil act that I can ever remember a character committing on the show.
Paulie is a disgusting, self-pitying weasel and a thug with no redeeming value, and he sorely needs a bullet in the head, but Phil needs to be tortured and killed.
On the plus side, it was great to see Tony finally kick AJ in the ass. He should have done it a long time ago.
I hated the Paris travelogue but I like the rest of the episode.
For some reason, I got a chill as soon as I saw them meet at Lou Costello’s Statue. I’ve been there once and for some reason I thought it symbolized they were heading back to the old days. I’m not even sure why.
The description of Vito’s death was brutal and Phil is really asking for shit to happen. The kids reading about their Dad was pretty sad. Vito should have either disappeared for good or offed himself far from Jersey. Selfish sh!tb@g.
Good to see Tony finally crack down on AJ.
I’m an idiot, I thought Tony was having an attack on the drive home and then the blonde popped up.
Did I mention the whole Paris thing was boring beyond hope?
Just a reminder, Final Episode is two weeks away not next Sunday.
OK, did I miss something or did the previews indicate the next episode is the last of the year before the “final 8 episodes”. All along, I was under the impression that there was one more episode, but the preview seemed to indicate there were more. Am I insane, or did I just mishear something.
Who else would have done it? It was no one in Vito’s family. It was no one in Tony’s crw. It had to be either Phil or someone in Phil’s crew (which means it was Phil’s idea).
I guess I misinterpreted what Vito Jr. said; I just didn’t pick up on the source being someone in the mob.
As far as Carmela’s trip- maybe it was something nice for Edie Falco, but I also found myself wondering if it’s not a step toward a moral awakening for Carmela.
The stabbing was kind of ridiculous, but it was interesting to see that Tony isn’t the only one with some mixed feelings about Vito.
Was I the only one thinking Phil hiding in the closet was kinda cheesy (now that I say it ‘out loud’ I guess it was somewhat symbolic)?
Also, did anyone else notice Rosalie was smoking two different types of cigarettes? At the beginning of the trip she had Marlboro Mediums, and towards the end they she had regular reds, but I’ll have to recheck that when I watch it again.
Does she know who had Jackie Jr. killed? It’s been so long, I’ve forgotten if she ever knew who was behind it.
I’m confused about the hit on Vito. Tony set it up, didn’t he? Or was his phone call with Vito legit, wanting to know Vito’s contacts in Atlantic City? Would Tony let Phil kill Vito before Tony got his 200K from Vito?
One thing that has always been bothering me is why Tony hates his Mom for not stopping his Dad from hitting him, and not his Dad for doing the actual hitting?
Anyone think Tony was going to smack AJ? I know I was hoping he would.
